I stumbled upon an interesting site: www.americanradiohistory.comAmong other things, it has all of the back issues of Broadcasting magazine. The first issue, from 1931, talks about KSL being granted a clear channel with 25,000 watts with an additional experimental 25,000 watts.

I heard a station ID just now: "KSQN 103.1 Coalville and KLO 1430 Ogden". Still running the talk format.

Speaking of noisy, has anyone noticed that the 103.1 signal in Salt Lake has been weaker than usual for about a week. I don't notice it on a stationary radio or in the car, but when moving with a portable radio I get so much drop-out that it's now unlistenable. I've actually gone back to 1430. Maybe the SL booster is off air? The other Humpy stations sound normal.

I also had major issues receiving DTV. One important thing that I learned is that the position of the antenna is very important. Moving your antenna horizontally or vertically even a few inches can sometimes change which channels you will receive. Through much experimentation I also learned that an antenna on the roof was a necessity for me. I also learned that an amplified antenna does more harm than good to your reception in the Salt Lake area.
I bought the biggest UHF antenna made and mounted it above my chimney. I still could not get all of the channels. I moved the antenna to the other end of the house, as an experiment, and now I get all of the channels perfectly. It shouldn't be this hard. No wonder so many people subscribe to cable/satellite just to get local channels.
I watch more hours of TV via the internet now than over-the-air or cable. I suspect that is the future of TV.

Excellent point, Timmy. A similar thing has happened in our house.
97.9 still plays one song that devolves into rap. I change the station every time.

Never mind. They seem to be playing the same old stuff.
Maybe my hearing aid batteries were low.

I just heard a short promo suggesting that "FM 100 (point 3)" will be updating its music selections. They then played a couple of very short cuts of the kind of stuff I hear more often on 97.9.

And now they're back on air.
Among the stations that were off the air was 107.9. Is it on Humpy now?

If you do not subscribe to satellite radio, but you have a Sirius or XM radio, your receiver is working now until December 3. This is a free trial period and requires no set-up at all.
And no, I don't work for Sirius/XM. But I am enjoying listening to the Fox Business Network which I don't have on my bare-bones Comcast subscription.

I'm in Murray too. I can just barely pick up KPGR on 96.7 by moving my antenna around. A stronger signal on that same frequency here is Kix 96 (KKEX 96.7 Preston/Logan). I used to hear KSOP on this frequency with a much stronger signal.
I wish we could hear KUSU here in the SL valley.

By my calculations that's a 23% jump in KSL's audience. Is that really possible? Was it those extended conference sessions that did it? Or did the prophet die and I missed the news.
Your idea for KLO sounds like a very good one, but I hope they don't do it. I listen to 103.1 quite often and have trouble getting a clear signal on 1430. Maybe KBZN's ad income will support KLO for a while longer.
I'm surprised that the Bee is doing so poorly. It seems that they're always only copying someone. How about putting 860's programming on 98.7? Or would that kill them both?
In other news, I'm glad to see 92.5 going down. I'd be happy if they disappeared. I've always thought that that rap crap was not good for kids. When I hear it playing in a place of business I know I'm in the wrong place. Or maybe the wrong universe.

Grantsville - Didn't 92.1 have its transmitter in Grantsville before the move to the Oquirrhs?
And 1010 was previously on 990 in Tooele before the move to Salt Lake County.
