I'm working on a piece for the Tooele Transcript Bulletin about radio history in Tooele County. Actually, it seems Tooele County doesn't have much of a radio history, but for a while we had KDYL (now 1010 KIHU). I believe KSL's Doug Wright worked at KDYL Tooele for a time. I can't find much else on this station. Does anybody here have any memories from KDYL's Tooele era? Any history?
Also, I've heard from a few people about a pretty well-known (at the time) pirate radio station that once broadcast from Grantsville. Does that ring a bell to anybody?

92.1 before KUUU was it KTLE? It was top 40 in the late 80's and 90's

The earliest I remember 92.1 Tooele was when it was Magic 92. They used the KHJ/Drake jingle package.
Dana is right. Here's the timeline for 92.1/92.5 KTLE from 09/10/1979 KTLE-FM from 05/19/1982 KTKL from 05/09/1997 KMGR from 08/22/1997 KUUU from 03/08/1999
It was already KUUU when it moved from 92.1 to 92.5 I believe.

Grantsville - Didn't 92.1 have its transmitter in Grantsville before the move to the Oquirrhs?
And 1010 was previously on 990 in Tooele before the move to Salt Lake County.

So far, in my research I can only find one station ever in Tooele County, with the following call sign history:
KTUT (late 1950s) KDYL (1960s to 1982) KTLE (1982-1992) KTUR (1992-1998) KIQN (1998-2004) KCPW (2004-2009) KPCW (2009-2009) KIHU (2009 - Present)
It broadcast on 990 until 1982 when it switched to 1010

I believe that radio tower that is in Tooele was once used for the station mentioned in the previous post. It is now used by an FM translator or two.

BM, 92.1 (now 92.5) was licensed to Tooele before changing City of License to South Jordan.

Even though I believe terrestrial radio, in its current state, is a dying medium (no offense, all), I'm really sad Tooele County doesn't have a local-focused radio presence. I wonder if that's viable at all.
