Now IDing as Sunny 103. I was beginning to wonder what was going on there.
The positioning is very odd. The recent stuff goes right up against Now 97.9 doesn't it? They just ran Lady Gaga, which could just as easily show up on Now which they also own.

The stream is very artifact-y [must be really low bit rate] and the player so buggy that I couldn't even adjust the volume in browser. That's a bit of a problem. Here's the website, which is nothing more than a "listen live" link. They need to do some better 'seeding' for the search engines, it didn't appear at all using Bing. www.sunny103fm.com/So far: (approx 1 hour sample) Billy Joel - "Still Rock and Roll to me" Stop set with around 2:00 commercials (bonus?) Simple Minds - "Don't you, forget about me!" Adele - "Rumor Has It" Madonna - "Like a Prayer" (Voice tracked DJ station positioner) Matchbox 20 - "Unwell" Joan Jett - "I Love Rock and Roll" Taio Cruz - "Break Your Heart" (Voice tracked DJ advertiser promo) Stop set with 3:00 commercials (Jingle out) Thompson Twins - "Hold Me Now" (Jingle positioner) P!nk - "Try" (Voice tracked DJ station positioner) Elton John - "Your Song" (Jingle positioner) Michael Franti and Spearhead - "Say Hey (I Love You)" (Positioning sweeper) Liz Phair - "Why Can't I" Jingle top of the hour ID with time stamp and then DJ toss to song Daughtry - "Home" (Positioner, including '2 commercial free hours every morning) Chicago - "Baby, what a big surprise" -- So, unless it's just the "old" part of their music library isn't built out yet, this is the weirdest attempt at getting a bit more AQH for the KLO cluster. I suppose it's a flanker for 'Now' but it seems like it would just eat more into the 'female leaning' formats that the market is crowded with. KSFI KBZN KJMY KZHT KUDD/KUDE "Rewind" KBEE "Oldies 94.1"

Since there's nothing on the website yet, I don't think they're too concerned about people finding it. (How did you by the way?)
Meanwhile, Sunny has brought the dreaded Delilah back to Salt Lake. *shudder*

Few notes... Processing needs to be brighter, sounds like AM. The DJs need to feel more real and not so Pukey, this is soft AC, They keep saying NOW and With A Difference... that's the same stuff BZN says. Delilah, whether she is liked by us or not, is pretty powerful, I understand... I'd love them to bring Laura Bidore(sp) back with Showtunes Tonight (so would my wife!). I'm glad that even though VT'd, it's not just jukebox song,imaging,song,imaging,song,song,imaging,break,etc.... And I hope they don't do back selling/auto-tagging.

I've heard a lot of AM stations that have better sound quality for music than 103.1. Is it even in stereo?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the DJ was voicetracked. When your timecheck is off by 3 minutes, that's a pretty good sign. Could very well be a national service that they hired.
I'm still confused by the format though. It's mostly Lite AC, but then they throw in Lady Gaga or Adele. Bringing back Lite AC would be fine. Being an "anything that was a hit" station (like what Jack was designed to be) is fine too. I'm not so sure about this 'mostly one thing but occasionally something else' format. Maybe they should have called it "SQUIRREL!"

I've heard a lot of AM stations that have better sound quality for music than 103.1. Is it even in stereo? Whatever the problem is, it does not affect the Internet stream. I've listened to it a lot today, and, while it may not be the highest bandwidth stream that I have ever heard, it is perfectly adequate. Could the problem be with the transmitter itself? Could it have been switched into monophonic mode when 103.1 switched to the AM simulcast?

The broadcast is definitely in stereo. Remember that KSQN is a rimshot so the signal is going to be weaker. If you're at some distance from the main and/or boosters your radio is probably going to blend to mono. That would also explain Timmy's issue with the sound not being bright enough. When you blend to mono the high end gets rolled off and it does sound much more like 10kHz AM. I'm only about a dozen miles from the Bountiful booster, so I'm getting a solid signal and it sounds fine to me.

I get a solid sounding signal and I hear the stereo separation, I think they did some work on it. The pilot is also on solid for me. I'm in a good spot here in American fork for most rim shots and boosters. There's just not much in the way of high end coming through. Perhaps they are still tweaking their Omnia 6... If they want to go for a mellow and quiet wallpaper format, they got it... But, IMHO, I think a soft or lite ac should be bright and "sunny"!! (see what I did there?)

But the booster serving southwest Salt Lake County (I live in West Jordan) is still sounding as flat as Sprite left out for a day. I realize that rimshots have their quirks, but when 103.1 was Jack FM, it sounded okay at my house. Downtown SLC sounds pretty muddy too.

SHouldn't the processing happen at the studio and then be sent out to all the tx's and all sound about the same? I can't see them having audio chains at all the tx sites...

There have been raging debates over whether it's better to have the processing done at the studio or at the transmitter. There are pros and cons for each. In the case of rimshots where you've got at least 5 separate transmitters it makes sense to preprocess at the studio, but I have no idea what they actually do.

Even though I've been out of the SLC market since 2010, this reminds me of a more AC-ey Jack. With the ratings plunges elsewhere I am curious to see how yet another AC station will stand up. The stream sounds atrocious.
