At work, I just listen to audio streams on my work computer, wearing headphones. At home, I listen to audio streams on my iPad and a Bluetooth external speaker. In other words, I use a traditional radio only when I am in the car. Cars are a niche for traditional broadcast radio that will erode over time, as more and more cars are equipped with iPhone docks.

I'd love for Utah State to get listenable translators in Salt Lake City and Utah County. I'd also love KCPW to get a Utah County translator.

I'm assuming the financial picture at KSRR Provo (AM 1400) is not too sunny, since the owners there let their FM sister station KQMB Levan (96.7) go silent. So to me it would make more sense to make an offer for 1400 or one of the other Utah County frequencies (is 960 adding any listeners to 1280/97.5?) than to start at square one. On the FM side, both 92.1 and 96.7 might be available for the right price.

KBEE has been using "New" for years, I think. I heard Dain Craig, wearing his program director hat, trying to explain the new format in a spot. I don't know how often the spot is in rotation. Basically, he said "new" used to mean that they always played new music. Now, "new" means that they play hits and favorites, as dspete noted. I've moved KBEE to my first row of presets, bumping KSFI.

... in alphabetical order by song title. It has done this at least twice before, but seems to be going deeper this time, possibly because its format seems to be evolving from classic hits to classic rock. For example, they recently played Dead Man's Party by Ouingo Boingo and Distant Early Warning by Rush.
It started at 5 pm on Friday with the Beatles' A Day In the Life. (The Arrow promos jokingly claim they had an intern do the alpabetizing. But even an intern should know that when you alphabetize, you ignore articles (a, an, and the) and alphabetize on the first significant word of the title.) So the first song should have been what was actually the third song played, Abacab by Genesis.

Listening to Radio Disney on 910 compared with listening to it on Sirius XM is like night and day.
FWIW, Sirius XM is running one of their periodic free listening periods right now, at least for the XM radio in my car. I don't know how long it will last. Listening to the vastly larger playlists Sirius XM has makes me long for a subscription. But not enough that I will pay for one.

On my car radio, 107.1 is coming through loud and clear everywhere from downtown SLC to Provo. It actually sounds a little better than 101.5.
KAUU 105.1 is perfectly clear from West Jordan to Provo (and clear with slight static in downtown SLC). Has KAUU moved its COL from Manti to American Fork already? The top-of-the hour station ID goes so fast that I cannot understand it. IF so, is the Eagle still audible in Manti?
Since the 107.1 frequency is not including in the Eagle's branding (and neither was 106.9), I assume that this three-way simulcast will be going away, but I have found it interesting that the 107.1 frequency has separate advertisements than the other frequencies. 107.1 ads are focused on Logan. Since there are boosters all along the Wasatch that seem to be live, I assume the Logan focus will be going away when the new format launches. But when?

In the thread about Easy Listening (now locked), I noted that one of my favorite light rock stations to listen to at work was WESI in Louisville, KY. Well, it bit the dust yesterday, after having come in dead last in the ratings.
radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/90449/wesi-louisville-shifts-to-classic-hits/ It is now stunting by playing 10,000 classic hits in a row. Classic Hits is a format I also like, but not for work -- too active. So I guess for Soft Rock, I will have to go back to the station I used to listen to before I found WESI -- WDUV in Port St. Richie, FL. www.wduv.com/ The problem with that station is that all of the advertisements are targeted to retired Baby Boomers. What does that say about my choices in music?

When 910 was playing its show tunes format, the music sounded crisp. Now, Radio Disney is sounding very mushy, exactly the way it sounded back when it was on 910 before. If all of the Radio Disney stations sound this way, it is no wonder that most listening is done digitally. Is the mushy sound a result of feeding a stereo feed into a monaural transmitter? I'm assuming that whatever the cause, it is something that could be easily fixed if anyone really cared.

Actually, I kind of liked listening to KWDZ last Sunday....instrumentals, show tunes, a little crackle of lightning in the background.... I kind of like it too. It is a true "playing what we like" format -- because the management doesn't care at all whether anyone listens or not. I just wonder how they are calculating BMI royalty payments. Are they still a commercial station, even without any commercials? And since a lot of their music, especially the aerobics beat track instrumentals, never get any airplay elsewhere (and never did get any airplay) how would you determine what was owed?

It was broadcasting showtunes and big band again yesterday afternoon as I drove home from work.

Is KWDZ off again already? This morning driving to work, the transmitter was on but not broadcasting anything the two or three times I checked.

Did 103.1 steal any listeners from FM100? It seems to me that Sunny's 70s to Now format is a copycat of FM100's playlist.
