On Friday as I commuted from between my home in West Jordan and where I work in Provo, there was no smooth jazz. KTCE was broadcasting silence, both coming to Provo in the morning and going home in the afternoon. This morning, there was no indication that the transmitter was still on.

Friendlee, since Utah State has never been able to get traction with a translator on the Wasatch Front, is there any thought about trying to take a page from Park City Wireless' book and go after a full-power station?

Come to think of it, I don't recall hearing station IDs on 107.9 or 103.9 since the "reset your preset" loop started. It's right here at the beginning in this Clyp clip (warning, auto started): KUMT 107.9 LOOP
Thanks! I guess I did not listen long enough. On the day the loop started, my focus was on determining how long the loop is. Which I gave up on because I was too bored.
Does the station ID come once per loop? Or does it cut in at a certain time of the hour?

That would mean that the loop they've been running since has been illegal since it includes a "call to action", namely to tune to 105.1. Come to think of it, I don't recall hearing station IDs on 107.9 or 103.9 since the "reset your preset" loop started.

I was able to listen again at 3:00 p.m. and heard the station identify as KRUZ Murray. So it is on the air. But so weak that it is almost unlistenable. It seems obvious to me that they are on the air only to avoid forfeiture, not because they actually expect to sell advertising.

It would be interesting to know where Evanston rates on rural communities served by Grade A signals. My guess would be that Evanston has more such signals than nearly any other town not within the boundaries of a metropolitan area. (The US government defines Evanston as a micropolitan statistical area.)

Is it already back on the air? An hour ago I picked up on my car radio a sports-talk station at 1230 carrying CBS Radio Sports. The CBS Radio Sports website radio.cbssports.com/stations/ does not show an affiliate on that frequency closer than Cheyenne, WY (and that is at 1240). At 1230, there is nothing close at all. I suppose it could be a distant station from weird atmospheric skip because there was a lot of static. But then, if the station is so lower powered, then maybe it is just coming from Bearcat Drive. I did not listen long enough to hear the station ID.

I was not aware of any plans for KMGR. It is a pretty rare format these days -- Full Service. Basically, it sounds like KSL sounded 40 years ago.

It does seem well programmed. I wonder if a purpose of doing Chistmas music first was to give the engineer time to do some tweaking to the signal. It now seems a lot better.

KLGN and KSRR are still playing nonstop Christmas. I assume that they will flip back sometime this weekend or on Monday.

KTCE Payson (92.1) was not on the air yesterday when I checked. I guess their return to the air earlier this month was just a Christmas miracle.
Was playing Christmas music for a couple of weeks enough to satisfy the FCC?

On second thought, a station with call letters KAUU would work well for a sports station "All University Utah". Perhaps KALL wants an FM simulcast partner.

The commercials seems a bit weird, but I've wondered if they plan to make sure everything is running smoothly before promoting the new signal. While mix1051slc.com has been parked for over a year now, Broadway recently registered hot1051 which if i had to guess is generic, Cumulus registered the "hot monaker for 1019 when they registered alt 1019. But Broadway has also registered kiss1051.com. There has also been a facebook page up for the last couple weeks, kiss105, that has a countdown to launch for Midnight on nov. 1st. There is a short description on the fb page. "SALT LAKE CITY! IT'S COMING! STAY TUNED!" Kiss151.com appears to have been registered by someone at KUUU, not Broadway Media directly. who.godaddy.com/whoisstd.aspx?domain=kiss1051.com&prog_id=GoDaddy Probably just a prank. On the other hand, mix1051slc.com was registered by the owner of Summit Technology, which is the IT contractor for Broadway Media. So I think this website will be the real deal. who.godaddy.com/whoisstd.aspx?domain=mix1051utah.com&prog_id=GoDaddy&k=%20L0aUv9OIP9duneCfj45yzj94Ae%2fzXKiTKZx3EZ%2flX0KTmpjTIWkaSP7%2fAxSNGjK

The U of U women's basketball team had a game at the same time as the Las Vegas bowl, so KALL was not available. I would not read too much into this. The last thing the SLC market needs is another sports station.
