The problem with older demos is that while yes they have income that loyalty that you mentioned is a problem for advertisers. They already know what they like and advertising just doesn't work as well for them. If a 60 year old has been buying Coke for 40 years how likely is it that yet another ad is going to get them to switch to Pepsi? Not very likely. This is why all media is chasing the younger demos whose buying habits aren't as established yet. Never forget that commercial radio is about making money, not providing a public service. As another board operator likes to say: Follow The Money. This is of course true. But you might get more overall pie by having a small pie that you totally dominate, vs. getting a small slice of a large pie. A rimshot or AM is probably not going to ever get a large slice of a large pie.

I still stream at work sometimes stations that play the old "Bonneville"/Lex de Azevedo format of instrumental covers of pop muzak. The problem is that the few stations still doing that format seem to think that they also need to include Adult Standards, Lounge, big band, and "Beautiful Music."

I hate Delilah, also. Tesh is not much better.

I expected a change to happen when KSQN resorted to the hail-mary of commercial-free weekends. But I am sad to see the format go. They had a good mix.

I don't know if the data you have access to contains it, but I am curious whether KSQN dumping all of their weekend ad inventory has moved the needle on time spent listening and overall audience share.

The Sinclair deal must have closed, since it is listed on the Sinclair website. sbgi.net/tv-channels/ But you cannot totally trust that site, since it also lists that KENV is a Salt Lake station. Is Elko considered to be part of the SLC media market?

I sampled yesterday morning (drivetime) and yesterday afternoon (drive time). Both times the station had English-language non-local programming (references to times of other programming were all Central Time). It was talk programming of a VERY conservative and religious flavor. So no sign yet of any Hare Krisna programming (and I did occasionally listen to the station back in the day, so I know what programming they used to have). This appears to be the station's new website: www.utahtalkradio.com/About-Us.html but it has broken links and seems half-finished.
Or maybe THIS is the station website: khqn14801.homestead.com/

I remember many years ago visiting Broadcast House shortly after KSL went to AM Stereo. They had a receiver with headphones in the lobby for the public to listen to. It was pulling in an over-the-air signal -- and the sound quality was amazing. Of course, it helped that KSL was still playing music then. I can't remember if it was that same visit, but at one point KSL had a tv in the lobby showing Teletext 5. Now THAT was a technology that failed to achieve liftoff. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_System_Teletext

I guess I am behind the curve in tracking changes at KSL. I looked just now at KSL's schedule on their website and saw that The Browsers was gone and replaced with the JayMac News Show. When did that happen?
Never mind. I did research and found out it was January.

I tried listening to KUDE again this morning but did not hear anything. But I heard KGNT from Logan really well so maybe my car radio was locking on the wrong signal.

Did the loop tape change since dspete posted? I listened the firest time this morning as I started for work and I didn't hear anything "patriotic" (although I did not recognize the music it so maybe is but just not the snippet they are looping).

I guess the next question is -- once KWDZ gets its STA approved, will it continue simulcasting KODJ, or will they put something else on? Since it now sounds like iHeart was just briefly testing their signal, throwing KODJ on it then might not indicate that they plan on doing it again.

I was not been able to pick up KWDZ on my car radio in West Jordan this morning although I am able to pick up KRUZ faintly there. Am I just too far from the station or is KWDZ back off the air today?

So what is the future of 103.9? Are the current call letters still KUDE?
