"KYLZ, one oh four point seven, Lyman, Wyoming. Utah's one oh four seven." They're mixing in some familiar old rock. Sounds like it's aimed at males, skewed older. The signal is quite strong here in Murray. There must be a booster, perhaps near Ensign Peak, blasting into the SL valley. www.utahs1047.com/

WOW! A WEB SITE? From MILLCREEK??? Thank GOD the current management gets it.
Regardless, based on the Web site, I'd say they're going for that "River"/Triple A audience. It seems a lot like Bonneville's 100.3 The Sound in Los Angeles. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery?

Ah man, still not pure dance!
Pretty chill station, though. Sort of like "elevator rock." Reminds me of The Mountain. Or an XM channel.

A lot of good, obscure stuff. I think this may not cume well, but it will have an awesome TSL. And isn't TSL what PPM is all about?
FYI ... not my music, but I'm still listening. No channel flipping.

I can't hear it but I was hoping that SLC would get a station like KLZX classic rock from the Logan area.
So I'm guessing it must be like the old Mountain on 105.7.
Hey I can say and I'm hoping it's different from anything else in SLC

I caught that too. I can't say I'm a big student of rock, but of the four songs I heard I only knew one of them. That could be either good or bad depending on your point of view. Either it's "hey it's so diverse that people will listen because they'll hear a lot of new stuff" or "people aren't going to listen because they don't know any of it and will flee to where they know the music."
Before I read that Terry had found that website I was tempted to think this is a stunt format. The lack of any real imaging or a real name is curious. They could even use the callsign as a slogan. I guess we'll wait and see if the station matures a bit over time.

Hey I can say and I'm hoping it's different from anything else in SLC I think that's a pretty safe bet.

You're seeing the beginning of moniker death. With PPM all that matters is pounding the frequency into our heads so we can find it. The meter does the rest.

Actually... in ARB diary methodology the game was to try to "gimmick" the time spent listening reported.... and that is being thwarted with the PPM's... in fact the type of stations that can more roughly be categorized as old music based stations showed surprising strength in the original PPM tests in Houston and Philadelphia and in cities that PPM has subsequently gone "currency" that has held up. That old drill of going back on Thursday when it's time to mail in the diary and fill in all the days you forgot you had the diary are over. ... and typically in that situation you would say "oh yeah, I was on the road at 615 in the morning ... and it took 90 minutes to get to work and I listened to KSL the whole time" ... but the PPM showed you actually FIRST turned that radio on at 632... and it was still on KFNZ from the Jazz game the night before... but you punched out DJ and PK at 641 and went to KSL trying to get a traffic report but you missed so had to stay with KSL till about 650 then you went looking for some music... etc etc..." AND FOUR STATIONS got cumed and the 6 qtr hours you had written down for KSL in your diary only ended up be 2 (because it was at least five minutes in each of two quarter hours) and the rest was split up...
PPM will give some less up front stations an additional 20-40% cume... but it might not be signfiicant listenership in that cume... the lowest quintile in PPM will be much lower listenership and the lowest quintile in diaries... which basically didn't get reported before...
104.7 will be interested read .. and we'll have two diary books before we go PPM in SLC to see... And, yeah it does break a lot of those rules... but you know, Bill Drake did actually pass away this last year! (the guy that said "what you don't play can't hurt you")

Hearing this in Millcreek loud and clear, however, the volume is too loud and the songs sound a bit distorted. This may just be my radio though. If so, disregard my volume comment. Right now they are playing an old U2 song. A commercial is now advertising what they play. "104.7 all about the music." I'm betting Terry's right, there has to be a booster somewhere. EDIT: Yes there is: tinyurl.com/dfec53

I keep forgetting to check this in the car... Any utah county reports? With 600 watts licensed to Provo, is this going to be similar to the simmons' boosters from lake mountain or provo canyon--wherever?

Loud and clear here in Evanston. The pieces of our little "pie" here are getting smaller and smaller. I really wish they'd have found a place on the OTHER side of the Uintas for all these rimshots. Makes it hard for a LOCAL station to compete. Format-wise I probably won't be listening. Don't like classic rock and I am more of a hit-oriented guy. I like music I recognize. And yes it does to me sound a LOT like the old Mountain 105.7.
So then...how many MORE humpies are in the works? What's next?

I know it's probably causing heck for you guys at KNYN/KEVA ... but I do have to admit having Jack and The Blaze made the drive from Rock Springs to Evanston much nicer. Of course, I listened to 'NYN while driving thru Evanston!

Just recieved my mp3 of 104.7 from a buddy in SLC. About 1 hours worth and........ I actually like it but I am going to work for KTKE 101.5 which is formatted just about like 104.7. www.ktke1015.com/Playlist.htmlKYLZ sounds more like of a true AAA station then a classic rock but i did hear KISS!! So I agree it sounds like the old Mountain 105.7 Now for the news about DSPete..... My last day at 93.9 is this afternoon. Was offered the 7-11 pm slot on KTKE about a month ago and with now knowing cut-backs here i was on the list but was recommended for the 101.5's spot. Start date 4-13-2009 DJ Update Alert...... I ran into someone that most of you know and use to be a poster at one time and was a B-98.7 personality yep at the local store it was BEEJ-. He is now at 96.5 Alice here in Tahoe..Would love to work there great station DSpete
