There's no way they can load local spots into your Tivo and make it fire it locally, in your box, at the correct time?
Man, the satellite company is a dinosaur.
Someday we'll have a Hulu browser built right into the TV. And the masses will rejoice.

Hyper local ads (addressable by specific subscriber or ZIP code or whatever else you want to divide down to) has been the holy grail of TV ads for over a decade. It's getting closer, but isn't quite there yet. One possibility is having the box seamlessly switch from one data stream (the one you were watching) to an alternate stream for certain people. Something very similar already happens on cable when EAS is activated, although that's across all channels of course.
DirecTV/Dish do actually use the local avails on satellite channels, but they insert their own ads for everyone nationally.

My observation on 104.7 is this: if they are going to claim that the station doesn't play "the same old songs", they need to ditch some of the WAAAY overplayed stuff from the '80's to live up to their slogan. For example: John Cougar's "Jack & Dianne." That song has been played TO DEATH on nearly every radio station for the past 20 years. Other than that, I really like the station. I've heard cuts that I haven't heard on the radio since I left Minneapolis in 1987. Oh yeah, at some point some weather, traffic reports, news briefs, etc. would be much appreciated. They could easily be inserted in the spaces now occupied by the "what's your music story" spots.

They need to play a few burn-outs to pull listeners in. I just hope they don't play too many.

Thanks for the run-down CA on all the new potential "Humpys". I was quite curious as to what the future holds. I'm telling you...I sure am glad I have a job that is my main income and the radio station is NOT my main income anymore. I have a feeling if this continues to go this direction, Evanston will no longer be a market where a local station can make it. All I know is we REALLY need to concentrate on being as LOCAL as we can - something the humpy stations can't do. This is the ONLY thing on which we will survive. No one seems to know what is going to happen....especially with the future of KNYN (our only LOCAL FM) in jeopardy. I have, however, heard rumors that we'll still have something. They may move KNYN to 103.9 and put it on Humpy and still let us lease it. We keep waiting for something to happen. Maybe this is the summer that it will happen. Hold on tight...it's going to be a bumpy ride. I shudder to think of what could happen if we end up having only ONE local station here.....that'd be KEVA 1240 AM Stereo. I guess they'd probably give it a go if that's what happened but we'd have to be extremely LOCAL to give anyone a reason to listen and advertise with us - especially as a stand-alone AM.
Anyhow...thanks for the rundown.

KBZN going mainstream AC must not help you guys much, either... or did the translator up there get turned off? I seem to remember you mentioning that to me.
Anyone see if the license was canceled?

Started seeing a few Billboards heading from AF to Daybreak. One in Lehi, one in Draper for sure... Thought I saw one on Bangerter but not sure there are billboards there at all...
Very basic, white background, interesting font in black with a reflection directly underneath.
104.7 FM Cool. Classic Rock.

Finally saw the TV commercial for 104.7 early Sunday morning on Fox News. As with the billboards, it's very plain and simple: blue (?) font on a white background, interspersed with some shots of the artists the station plays. While it may be low budget, at least Millcreek is making the effort to promote the station. I'd listen anyway, as any station that plays Van Morrison, Peter Gabriel, Bob Marley, and The Kinks gets my vote. ;D

The commercial may be low budget (and it is), but they're apparently funneling that money they saved into high profile airtimes. They were on Monday's "House" on Fox13. I guarantee you that spot didn't come anywhere near cheap.
Millcreek has come to play.

Ok.. I guess I better weigh in on this... here's the you tube link on the 104.7 spots... there's 8 of them ... so far... www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=kylz+104.7&aq=fWhile the logo is definitely a "minimalist" thing... and the name of the station a totally ppm play.... the graphic animations are expertly crafted ... the audio flow of the spots reflects the texture of the radio staion. ... you really DO "sample" the station in 30 seconds.... you might wonder about some of the live cuts like the Who "My Generation".. why wouldn't you replace the live audio with the studio recording? I think the answer there is ...it is the station... and the emotional content of the live bits.... if you want NO budget spots.... you can compare the 104.7 spots to the ones The End did earlier this year... the old standard "flying album covers" or the JMY spots from their launch a few years ago ... the "random artist names in space" ploy.... Now... think about this station... if you saw a couple of these spots and tuned in the station... would you be disappointed with the station??? You know.. it is ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC. And, yes, the spots were somewhat less expensive than the going rate on package produced "TV for RAdio" spots... none of them could do the station like these do....

I still think this is a good station, it just hasn't had enough time to grow on people.

It's grown on me quickly. 104.7 is now my favorite station.
I didn't mean to say that the spots are bad. They're not. They're very good at communicating quickly what the station is, so I definitely agree with you there. I'm not sure I'd go as far as saying they're expertly crafted. I'd call it solid. Out of necessity it's very generic. You could plop that spot down for any classic rocker in America. Of course that's true of the station itself as well, so one leads to the other. Hopefully at some point there will be some real personality to the station, but getting it started and established first makes sense to me. (Some don't agree, but I think it's one valid strategy.)

Forgive me about my ignorance... but I heard them play The Wild Side today and I don't know if they ever edit this to where you don't hear him say about the hooker giving someone "pleasure", but they didn't. Is there an edited version that typical stations use that doesn't have that particular lyric? Just curious...

Not sure which song you're talking about. I know a couple of wild side songs. KBER plays a hard rock wild side, but I doubt that's the one you're referring too.
