Any word on streaming or DJ's and advertising starting on KYLZ? Went through their site at utahs1047.com and saw just some basic info and a place to enter a music story. I was tempted to tell all about this groovy chick I met at a George Strait concert in Tacoma, WA. But I resisted....

I'd asked about streaming and was told they were installing the equipment to get it going soon.

And the ads are still going strong.
Does anyone know if they're expected to come out of bankruptcy protection soon?

CA, I was more talking about on-air spots starting. I know, who would want spots?? With a company in some financial difficulty not sure how long they could run a station with no income. And ultimately, I hope they don't start song-tagging and actually get some staff on-air.

It actually makes a lot of sense to go commercial-free right now. I suspect there's a lot of sampling going on, and having no commercials means the samplers are less likely to tune out. Millcreek is probably hoping they get hooked so when the commercials do start they'll still stick around.
Finding commercials to run wouldn't be that hard since it's a cluster. Even if there weren't ads specifically sold for 104.7, they could always run bonus spots for advertisers on the stablemates.
(And I was actually just making a comment that the ad blitz wasn't a short term thing. I wasn't responding specifically to anything you said. Sorry if it seemed that way.)

There were a few spots for the upcoming Jackson Browne concert over the weekend, but the blocks just started today. I guess the station management wanted to make a gradual transition to the commercial blocks. Still, there's fewer interruptions for ads than on other commercial stations thus far, something that Millcreek is touting in between the music.

If there is one thing I hate about radio, its the unbelievable (sometimes up to three minutes) commercial breaks on some stations. Three minutes x3 times an hour. Rediculous. Kudos Millcreek. Less commercials gets my vote.
Heck, on my little neighborhood station, I play absolutely no commercials, and it kicks butt.

Most music radio listeners accept that commercials are the trade off for free radio.

6-7 minutes of commercials just doesn't work in my opinion. It doesn't take too long for the listener to get clued in that it's going to be a while until you hear programming again. Then they change the channel. I wouldn't put more than 3 or 4 commercials in a row on (either :30's or :60's) and specifically market it that way both to the listeners AND to the advertisers. If you're commercial #9 in a 12 spot stopset, the listeners are tuned out either literally or mentally by that point. Why waste your money?

While I agree with you, Arbitron and Edison's research claims otherwise. www.arbitron.com/downloads/spotloadstudy2005.pdfCB&S Advertising, the agency for Smith's, requests first or second in break. We can see why.

Important spots always come first. 3 minutes MAX. No use in anymore than that.

SF, unfortunately what people say and what they really do are sometimes two different things. A great example of that is how people say they want a wider playlist for a classic hits or classic rock format but when you give it to them they say they don't know enough of the songs and tune out. I haven't seen any study that uses PPM's to see how people really react and I think that would be interesting.

I like what Capital 95.8 in London does. Two 30s, three times an hour. Of course, they have to compete with BBC stuff.

It's possible on this continent too, 100.3 The Q in Victoria, BC does much the same. It's wonderful! (and I'm sorry, but Canada's music channels are superior in variety and live bodies to ours, despite some fairly large consolidation)

So why is that? Why is Canada superior? That IS the question. Now, SF, give me some links to listen to them online. I need to study up.
