First just to be clear on what the Domain Insight feature is...it reports that there are one or more internet domains that have been registered by a company and speculates where they might end up. It doesn't quite "predict" a change but more shows what might be changing. Having said that I wouldn't bet against a domain Lance Venta found being used. Meanwhile, I've seen what he found. It's behind a paywall so I'm not going to disclose what it is (and nobody else should either please.) I will say that I wouldn't spend too much time thinking about it.

It's a translator. A cross-service one for KKGM(AM) actually. How it got to that point was due to a petition to deny (and I think there was more than one.)

Ken, I'm not sure what you mean by "secondary audio." Channel 25.3 runs what I think at least used to be the audio for KSVN 730/99.9 along with the music video for the song. It's IDed as "KSVN-FM" and is just the regular primary audio and video just like any other channel.

OK. I've never heard of a requirement like that myself and it seemed a little weird.
To me it would make more sense not to duplicate the same program. With the limited bandwidth available I understand a station can't really get a good quality sound for a music format on 3 digital streams. My thought would be to turn off the 3rd stream and use that data to improve the HD1 & HD2 sound, but that's just me.

I'm a little confused. Are you saying that there is a requirement to have a different primary station for each translator?

We've had discussions about shoehorning in translators, how they interfere with each other and so on, but I don't think we have anything like K221GV Fort Worth. fccdata.org/?lang=en&appid=1786961&facid=202298This is a construction permit for half a watt. Its predicted coverage area is about a block and a half. Oh, and it's highly directional. I once connected a wall wart transformer to a battery powered FM transmitter for listening to an MP3 player in a car and I think it had better coverage than this. Either the FCC or me is totally nuts. Am I crazy for thinking that something that small is a waste of space and shouldn't be allowed?

K244DH has moved. IIRC Frank (the owner) said he wasn't happy about having to move but the rent at the old location was too much.
Terry, if what you were hearing was the same as what I heard over the weekend on the GOAT stream there was a station ID but it wasn't at the top of the hour and sounded very rushed. I did hear a mention of KKUT-HD4 and then I couldn't make out what the rest of it said though I wasn't concentrating fully on listening at the time. The ID tags on the stream are a bit of a mess too. I wonder if the problems Frank mentioned have gotten worse.

I was listening earlier (the DJ was Otto Mation) and I did hear Classic Hits Rewind 100.7 in some of the jingles and 10 in a row. Seemed kind of odd to emphasize doing 10 in a row in the middle of the night but sure, why not?

Sorry if the subject got you concerned for a bit. That wasn't the intention. That's just what it's called. It would be nice if we could clean up the English language but unfortunately that's a bit above our pay grades. I've noticed the site has seemed a little bit slower lately but I can guarantee it has nothing to do with the new theme. If it keeps up let me know and I'll see what I can find out from the Proboards owners. And lastly, don't worry about whether or not to bring up a new topic. I know it's a cliche but you never know what's going to spark interest. I've started about a gazillion topics that garnered zero interest. On the other side there's the KLO flip thread that got 86 posts and was active for almost 4 months. Go figure.

Yep. I missed something. Nobody but me and the guests were actually seeing the changes. Oops. There's a lesson here. Don't try to finalize major changes when you've been working on a project all night.

For those of you who didn't change the color scheme of the board in your settings, welcome to the first revision since our launch in 2008. Frankly this is WAY overdue. Sorry about that. This will be the default for the holiday season and there will be a new regular one on or about Jan 1.
For any registered users who don't like the new look, don't worry. The original look is still available. Start by clicking on the profile link at the top of the page, then click 'Edit Profile' on the right side and select the Settings tab. In the Forum Theme dropbox selecting 'Original 2008' will restore the old look. Make sure to click 'Save Account Settings' at the bottom. You can also check out the Blue Board theme if that's more to your liking. For guests I'm sorry but I don't think there's a way you can change it, but you can always register.
Comments? Make them here. I may have missed something somewhere.

I used to do the occasional TV DX when I ran into the right conditions. Today I'm afraid it's mostly gone. With digital TV you would have to first overcome the digital cliff effect, which isn't easy. Then you'd have to deal with rescanning and hoping it locks in. Do most TVs these days even have a way to manually select an RF channel that wasn't identified during a scan? On top of that, with the 2009 transition and the 2018-20 repack some large percentage of the US stations at least are all jammed into channels 14-36 and even if another decent powered signal was coming from far away it would get swamped by the local. You might get lucky with the VHF channels but those don't work very well for digital. I do have a fun DX story about FM though. It happened sometime back in the early 90's when I was living outside of New York City. At the time the New York Times owned classical outlet 96.3 WQXR-FM. Being a fairly unobjectionable station it was used as the audio for a local cable access channel that ran computer generated non-profit announcements when it was "off the air." WQXR used to sign off overnight early Monday mornings every week. Normally when that happened the really cheap radio they used to pick up the station off the air would lock onto the next station down the dial, WPLJ. I happened to turn on the access channel that night and was surprised to hear oldies on it and the station IDed itself as Oldies 96. I freaked out and went to check with one of my own radios to confirm what I was hearing. I was getting the same signal and it was on 96.3FM. What the heck? WQXR is gone?! I continued to listen and eventually I heard the legal ID - WNTX Nantucket/Hyannis. You can see where it was at the time at fccdata.org/?lang=en&appid=93488&facid=54037 Even better was that there was a live and local DJ on the air giving out the request line phone number. There was a problem though. He was giving it without an area code. It took some sleuthing to figure out the right one since this was an active time for area code splits. I did eventually figure it out and gave the guy a call. I told him where I was and that we were getting him all the way down in New Jersey that night. He did play my request and gave me a shout out on the air. Somewhere in storage I have the tape. I recorded several hours from the cable system that night. The signal eventually faded out and local WPLJ took over the cable system radio until WQXR came back on the air. Fun time.

The last saved page I have is the August report and they didn't show then at all. That's consistent with what's currently showing with N/A for August. I don't recall whether I saw them in Sept or Oct but I suspect not. Checking further back, the last time they were listed in the public ratings prior to this month was Holiday 2019, though dropping off the chart wouldn't have been a surprise at that point. I don't think the sale would have any direct impact on releasing ratings. That doesn't make sense. Why would it? They only thing I can come up with is that it is, or was, possible to subscribe by station and not be an all or nothing deal by cluster. One thing that did change was the loophole that allowed stations to use Nielsen numbers without paying by going through an agency, but I'm not all that familiar with how that worked and that's beyond the scope of this post anyway.
As far as why the numbers dipped from the Sept/Oct level to where it's at for Nov, check the dates. El Sembrador took over somewhere during the week of the 19th, right smack in the middle of the ratings period and it doesn't surprise me that the numbers cratered after that.

As we collectively recover from the turkey comas there are new ratings to consider.
This month KNRS made another huge leap and ended again as #1, this time by a wide margin. KSL actually dipped slightly but still had huge numbers and finished second. Sadly for both stations (but happily for our collective sanity) the election season is over and unless something crazy happens I don't think anyone sees those numbers staying that high.
On the non-talk front, Now 97.9 took a big hit. Since we're heading into the Christmas season it might be difficult to determine if that was a glitch or a problem for several months. There was also upward movement for Easy 99.1 but their numbers are so relatively small that it's hard to know if that's significant. For reference, Easy went Christmas only a few days before the end of this ratings period. I'll be interested to see what the week and a half head start might show in the next report.
