Now stunting with an upbeat Patriotic song over and over and over.
Should we play guess the format game?
I'm going Classic something? Hopefully Classic Alternative?

Did the loop tape change since dspete posted? I listened the firest time this morning as I started for work and I didn't hear anything "patriotic" (although I did not recognize the music it so maybe is but just not the snippet they are looping).

I'm still hearing the same loop that dspete first told us about. It is, in fact, "The Star Spangled Banner", albeit a jazzy version.

I tried listening to KUDE again this morning but did not hear anything. But I heard KGNT from Logan really well so maybe my car radio was locking on the wrong signal.

That's what I was getting overnight as well, but I would be getting the booster. Anyone in range of the main?

Interesting filing with the FCC last week that might shed some light on this. Remember that KUDE is supposed to move from 103.9 to 99.1 and keep everything else the same. According to their filing, they haven't been able to do that because the move of KNYN hasn't happened yet. (They also lost their licensed site back many years ago and has been operating under several STA's since then which I'd forgotten about.) In any case, they propose downgrading to a class A at 640 watts from a new site on 99.1 instead of the class C 74 kilowatts that they originally had. This would allow them to move to 99.1 without having to wait for KNYN to move. That also might allow the K256AE translator on Lake Mountain to stay on, though that's pretty much wasted simulcasting ZHT anyway. Proposal here: licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS_Attachment/getattachment.jsp?appn=101730523&qnum=5290©num=1&exhcnum=1

Wish I could help you guys out, but apparently I'm too far away from KUDE's transmitter on 103.9 to hear it. All I can hear on 103.9 is KGNT a/k/a KOOL 103.9 in Smithfield. Apparently I'm much further north than the rest of you!

As far as I know, and this was years ago, the owners of knyn have no interest whatsoever in moving it to 103.9 and going up to Humpy. Medicine Butte covers Evanston a lot better than Humpy does and that is the coverage they are interested in. So whoever is waiting for Knyn to move may be waiting for a long time.

Yep. They HAVE been operating at reduced power for over 10 years. All this happened back when we (KEVA) had KNYN. In I believe 2005 or so, in the winter, a horrendous ice/wind storm knocked down the tower. So we put up a temporary dipole antenna and went on exciter power and in the spring Uinta Communications (the site owner) put up a new tower and I believe that Kent (Frandsen) paid...or his insurance did if he had it... for a new antenna and we were back at the licensed 27kw. Then a year later, THAT tower got blown over and again destroyed the antenna. At that point Glenn Conrad of Uinta Communications said he was not paying to put up yet another tower. There was a smaller tower near the building there on Medicine Butte and all of THEIR (Uinta Comm) equipment was fine on it. The big tower was just for us. Kent wasn't going to pay to put up a new tower either....why should he? He doesn't own the property or the building. So at that point we were back on the dipole but Kent provided a 500w transmitter. That's when the first STA (the one that has since been renewed every year or two since then) was filed and to this day they still operate on an STA and the same little transmitter. Not sure who owns the site these days...Uinta Communications sold and folded years ago. Meanwhile, College Creek Broadcasting (a subsidiary of Millcreek...related to Marathon) had grabbed the license for a new Evanston station - KADQ 98.3. Co-located at the same site on Medicine Butte. Kent Frandsen apparently purchased KADQ from them and at that point, we still were leasing KNYN from him. College Creek had already brought in the 2500 watt transmitter and put up an actual one bay antenna on the little tower. This I believe was about 2009 or so. So for the next couple of years, in order to get a little more signal, we actually ran KNYN off of the 2500w transmitter and the one bay. In 2011 ( I believe ) is when Cook Brothers Broadcasting came into town and made Kent a better offer so Kent took KNYN from us and gave it to them and they also put KADQ on the air. That was the point that KEVA became a stand-alone AM and Cook Brothers put Country on KNYN and Classic Rock on KADQ (neither of which formats are done very well....music on hard drive and eclectic as ****) and at that point I believe that KNYN went back to the dipole on the little tower and the 500w transmitter, and KADQ assumed its proper 2500w transmitter and the one bay. I believe it still is that way to this day. All done from the same site on Medicine Butte. Not sure how long the FCC will keep approving Kent's STA re-filings for KNYN...especially with that docket in the works and KNYN having its application to move to Humpy. Saying that KUDE is not ready to move might just be another stall tactic to get the STA approved again so KNYN can stay where it's at. It's amazing that so many sources on the internet say that KNYN is at 103.9 . They are not and never have been. I just remember their engineer telling me back in 2009 or so that Kent really didn't have any interest in doing the "Humpy and boosters" thing that all the other humpies are doing. It's been several years now so maybe Kent changed his mind. I'm not sure. Lord knows he could do it and then probably make a mint selling it. I'm out of the loop and have been since KNYN was no longer in our control so I don't know. I know they do watch this board so I may hear from someone and have more info. I know one time I complained here about interference all over the dial (which is still going on by the way, guys) from KNYN and KADQ and one of their engineers from Logan contacted me. It's a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth. I am now out of radio since KEVA folded and was never offered anything at the "new" FM's once they got going. I guess they don't like me. Anyways....really digressing here. Just wanted to clear a few things up so that (Paul Harvey voice) you know.....the rest......of the story.

Thanks for the backstory Michael. I do appreciate it. It does make for an interesting read.
Part of the problem with these filings is that IIRC some of it changed after the initial order because there were some questions about ownership caps so some of it was swapped around. I'm not clear on exactly what ended up happening there.
