I am assuming that Metro's operations in Salt Lake City will be closed. I mean, after all, haven't some of their traffic personalities already been doing reports remotely for years (ie Greg Adams on FM100, based in Seattle now)?
This is a bummer to me personally as I always thought the Metro people were really nice and friendly.
Of course Clear Channel's network of stations (KNRS, KODJ, KZHT, KJMY, KTMY, KOSY) already use their in-house "Total Traffic Network" as does ABC 4 (last I knew...?).
KSL/Bonneville does all their stuff in house at this point I think - Although Andy Farnsworth may be employed by Metro and not KSL directly?
Citadel, who relies on Metro for news and traffic, would probably be hardest hit. They also probably have the one iconic traffic personality in their "General Gridlock" on K-Bull.
Millcreek doesn't use Metro/give traffic.
Simmons uses Metro I think, but could probably hire on "J.T." for voice tracked traffic reports on "The Eagle", "Jack" and "Movin'" and subscribe to another source of news information for their morning shows.
Smaller single-station/duopoly stations do use Metro (KSOP, KLLB, Spanish language stations) - I've heard reports in Spanish before - but I don't know if they'd have a stop gap.
For the 13 regional 'centers' - that really screams 'thirteen largest markets' except where extremely inconvenient. For example, I suppose a Denver operations center would make sense for Denver, Salt Lake City and any other 'medium sized' cities where Metro operates.

KLLB is still turning off at night, right? I used to listen to it when I lived there, it was kind of fun when they signed off at 5:30 at night... But then again, are either of these stations marketed? No. Did a slightly marketed *new* AM signal succeed? No (K-U-T-R AM 820, in its women/lifestyle talk period). www.fybush.com/Tower%20Site/080502/ktkk-kllb-tx.jpgwww.fybush.com/sites/2008/site-080502.html (across from the KTBN tower photo, he discusses the two) I'm not sure how correct his info is as some of it seemed to be borderline inaccurate. I guess the FCC would give the final answer on the tower question. I think KTKK had to plead "financial hardship" when they lost their original tower or something like that.

They could take over KCPW. I think it could be great. Unfortunately, K-C-P-W AM 1010 will be taken over by a Catholic group shortly. (I-H-Radio)

Utah radio (and the medium in general) seems to be so boring ever since the "breast exposure on the Superbowl" incident. Am I wrong?
I mean before that you had stations being sold left and right, formats flipping, companies doing great things (anyone else remember how damn good Millcreek's version of KAT Country Sounded?)...
It seems pretty sleepy now (97.5/94.9 current battle aside).

On my large bulky "old fashioned" Comcast box, the function is where you go into the guide - then when you select a program there is a R with a circle in it for recording besides just the bell symbol for a reminder (which I use a lot). That seems to work... however, this is in Seattle. I guess it's possible the boxes are programmed differently in Utah.

Well, KBZN has made a big shift. Yes they're playing "smooth vocals" but when I look at yes.com and see that current popular artists are in their top 20 most played over the week... egad! This is apparently what the major smooth jazz consulting firm/programmer suggested for them: "Sound more like KOSY or FM 100 used to." www.broadcastarchitecture.com/products_consulting.htmlNo wonder Kelly Monson thought it was time to move on. JamesAnderson must be quaking in his boots. I guess the last toss at B/EZ music in SLC is gone. Smooth "jazz" has been changing nationwide, with record labels dropping artists and stations moving more into vocal music - but I really think mirroring something like Seattle's KWJZ may have been a better move! Arbitron recently allowed smooth "jazz" to be re-labeled smooth A.C. if the stations wished. I have a feeling we will see that soon for KBZN.

Here, News Talk 710 KIRO is constantly promoting their other day parts with little drops of the hosts, even Phil Hendrie (10 pm to 1 am) so I guess that's one way to try to stir listener interest. They also promote the weekday programming in their live weekend shows (sadly, greatly reduced after January).

[glow=red,2,300]94.9 dark forever! [/glow] My friend in Utah just picked up that the Blaze is on 97.5. The good news? He tends to use cheap crappy radios... so I guess the boosters managed to reach him. Hopefully that means the main is on too.

Is Legacy Communications a tax write off or something? They seem to continue to acquire solo AM signals then automate them with that sleepy *and getting worse all the time* "Music of your life" satellite format...

Hi, Someone asked on the blue board about KRCL and how they are doing. From the RRC's site, here is Arbitron's copyrighted (but public) 12+ data. It appears KRCL is down in TSL and ratings from a year ago, and down slightly from a quarter/book ago.

I wish my P.O.S. receiver was broadcasting at too high a power. I should've wrapped more copper wire in there when I had the chance.
For anyone looking for refurbished units, DON'T BUY A SANYO!!!
I wish I could afford one of the ones that essentially allow you to make podcasts.

Their take on the matter. They're trying to be an "X96" and spin themselves as local. Which... I think in a lot of ways Millcreek is the last local broadcaster that tries anything 'new' in SLC-Ogden-Provo. www.theblazeonline.com/newsdetail.cfm?newsID=1054I like the bonus songs on the online stream too.

Confirmed! Apparently the 97.5 booster is going to stay off in Utah County? Smart move by MillCreek to use their silent frequencies!!! www.theblazeonline.com/
