Thanks for the information, Ken. I wasn't aware there were so many variables involved in getting 1060 back on the air. It's nice to have someone with experience in the broadcasting industry explain things in an easy to understand manner.
When you mentioned the possibility of having to make custom parts for the Continental transmitter, it reminded me of the time I had my ancient Afco furnace serviced at the beginning the heating season. The Afco needed a part replaced, and it's almost impossible to get parts for a 50+ year old furnace. As luck would have it, the serviceman was experienced with working on older HVAC equipment, and he was able to fabricate a replacement part to keep the old gal running smoothly for a few more years. Thank goodness for engineers and experienced repair technicians!🙂

Ron is testing the Continental. Soon there will be audio on 1060.000 How soon is "soon"? It's now almost the end of December, and KDYL is still silent. I thought the station was supposed to be back on the air by now. Maybe the old Continental transmitter is beyond repair?

I've been trying to access KOGN's public information file on the FCC site for several days now to see if an STA has been filed, and I keep getting an unexpected error message. I don't know if it's a problem with my ISP or the FCC database. KOGN has gone off the air for a few days several times in the past 2-3 years, so the station may just be having technical issues again. However, kenglish did say that the current license holder told him they'd been given about 30 days to vacate the property, and that was around the end of October. I did notice that 1490's tower was still standing when I went to work yesterday afternoon, so I'll have to watch and see if it's still in place after the holidays.

FWIW: I just noticed that KOGN is off the air after "broadcasting" nothing but dead air for approximately the past two weeks. I wonder if La Familia/Positiva Radio finally had to vacate the property on Gibson Avenue, and whoever bought the land is now ready to start the demolition process. I suppose time will tell, but it may be too late for Friendlee to find out if the old Western Electric transmitter is still in the studio building. 😥

Thanks for the info, oldiesfunhouse. I don't know if Broadway Media is locally owned and operated, but I have to give them credit for being so responsive to their audience. Mark Waldi in particular has always been quick to respond to my posts on the station's Facebook page. With the KOOL 105.5 music survey and responding to listener's inquiries as quickly as possible, it appears that they really value their audience's input. That's a refreshing change from the usual anonymous feel of most corporate radio stations.

It sounds like 105.5 has some serious issues with their studio to transmitter link today, possibly due to our recent cold & snowy weather. I've been listening to their over the air signal this morning, and the audio is cutting in and out every 10-15 seconds. I posted a message about the audio issue on the KOOL 105.5 Facebook page, but since it's the weekend, I doubt anyone is there to read it. If anyone on the board knows how to get in touch with the engineer at Broadway Media, it would be advisable to let them know that KOOL 105.5 may have a problem with its STL. Never mind: The problem with the over the air signal has been fixed, at least for now. Much to my surprise, I got a response from Mark Waldi about 15 minutes after I posted on the station's Facebook page.

As far as I know, the SLC International Airport station is still on 1200, or at least it was a few months ago. I was doing some impromptu daytime DX'ing late this spring when the power in my neighborhood was off, and I heard the HAR station on 1200 for the first time in a few years. Antelope Island State Park has had a TIS on 530 for at least a decade now, and it really gets out. With a good radio I can hear it 24/7 in NE Ogden, and I've even heard it on an online SDR in Tremonton. Weber County used to have a TIS/HAR station on 1350 that kept repeating the same information about swine flu and the Neighborhood Watch program for many years, but it disappeared from the air about a year ago. If you're in the Salt Lake City area, you might be hearing the HAR station for the University of Utah campus parking on 530. I heard that station pretty clearly in Ogden with a 100 foot random wire and a Yaesu communications receiver, but that was years before the Antelope Island TIS "signed on" 530.

I wonder if Jon Carter joining 100.7 Bob FM contributed to the jump in ratings? It's possible, but I doubt it. Jon's been doing the morning show on KYMV since the station rebranded as Bob FM last December. His return to Wasatch Front radio was well publicized in both local and national media, and social media as well. On the other hand, it usually takes at least 6 months to a year for a station to build an audience once it flips formats, so maybe there's some radio listeners who just recently discovered that Jon is back on the air in Salt Lake City.

KSOP-AM/104.3 HD2 is now playing all Christmas music on the weekends; with the exception of their Saturday and Sunday specialty programs "Cowboy Corner" and "Rick Jackson's Country Classics".

Ah, the fine print strikes again! But it's still not working. Wonder when that will open. I like participating in music surveys, regardless of pay or reward. I tagged KOOL 105.5 and Mark Waldi on their latest Facebook page post for the survey to let them know the survey link still isn't working, so hopefully they'll get it fixed soon. BTW, I heard a "Wow" song on KOOL 105.5 this morning that actually surprised me. It was "Driver's Seat" by the 1970's one hit wonder band Sniff 'n' The Tears. I remember hearing that song on KQRS-FM 92.5 at least 2 or 3 times a day during late 1978 and early 1979, but I've rarely heard it on the radio since then. IMO, it does seem like KOOL 105.5 has expanded their pop and rock song playlists recently, but they also seem to be playing less soul and Motown songs as well. EDIT: @timmy, try rebooting your PC or mobile device, then click on the link for the KOOL 105.5 survey. I restarted my Samsung mobile, and now I can access the link just fine. I also tried accessing the survey on a another cell phone after rebooting, and the link now works on my other mobile device as well.

Looks like the link is broken. Can't get into the survey... Nope, it's just not active yet. The survey doesn't begin until Monday, Dec. 6TH. I copied this from the KOOL 105.5 website: FROM 12/6/21 THROUGH 12/20/21, A SURVEY LINK WILL BE HOSTED ON 1055KOOLFM.COM.

Thanks for the information, Terry. I'm guessing that the FM translator on 99.9 is probably airing Frank's audio loop as well, since translators with an associated AM station are required by the FCC to broadcast the signal of the AM station. I guess the new owner wasn't ready to take over operations of 1580 & 99.9 as soon as expected.
This comment is slightly off topic, but WHY did the FCC choose to put FM translators in Utah and Weber Counties, as well as a low power FM station in Salt Lake, on the same frequency??! Considering the close proximity of the LPFM and the translators, putting all three on 99.9 seems like a recipe for disaster.

I heard Christmas music on 1060 this morning, and thinking that KDYL might be back on the air, I stayed tuned for the TOH ID at 10 AM. Turns out it was KBGN in Caldwell instead. I guess the old Continental 10 kW transmitter is proving to be more troublesome than anticipated. But you gotta love how late in the morning the AM DX from neighboring states lasts during the winter months!🙂
