Unfortunately the infomercials remain. Saturday at noon they ran a retirement planning show. On their website is an ad for a health show Mondays 4-5PM and there was also an on-air ad for something that I think is Mondays at 8, AM I'm guessing. This is a terrible idea. There is the questionability of things sold through infomercials in general, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm looking at scheduling. Weekends I can forgive somewhat because those are probably going to be periods of lower listening levels. But weekday drive time?? That's your bread and butter right there. I don't get this at all. I know they have to pay the bills, but this is going to drive away listeners during the time when they're most likely to be listening and they'll find someone else to stick with. And another thing. Has anyone seen any ads for the station yet? The Monday afternoon infomercial has been dropped from KLO's schedule, and the link promoting it has been removed from their web page. Other than the paid program that's still airing from 8-9 AM Mondays, all of KLO's infomercials are now confined to the weekends. Also, the Classic Radio Theater program has been expanded by an hour. It now airs seven days a week from 7-10 PM. I still haven't seen any ads promoting the new format, but then again I haven't watched any TV for over a month now. :-)

For some reason the link to the photo of the new tower isn't working. Anyone who wants to view the image can click on the second link at the bottom of the STA application. Sorry!

105.9

Is 105.9 one of the FM stations affected by the FCC repack? That might have something to do with the weak signal.

KUMT did nudge up a little in the latest ratings, but the difference isn't very significant. I think BYU Broadcasting can afford to operate BYU Radio at a loss as long as KBYU continues to get good ratings and donations from listeners. BYU seems to have learned their lesson from all the pushback they received when they tried to 86 Classical 89 in favor of BYU Radio.
The January ratings are out now, and KKAT-AM also nudged up a bit. Maybe they picked up some disgruntled KLO listeners, as their conservative talk shows aren't much different than Salem Radio's offerings. Why Nielsen classifies KKAT as "news" is beyond comprehension, though. They toss in a few pre-recorded news headlines a few times each day along with TOH network news, but KKAT sure ain't in the same league as KSL or even KVNU. KLO's share didn't change, but you really can't expect much difference in one month's time. They'll have to stick with America's Best Music for at least six months IMO to get a solid ratings picture.

Here's another idea for iHeart. 99.1's signal doesn't get out of the immediate Salt Lake area and iHeart has 570AM which is being completely ignored. Put the Easy format on 570. Sure it's an AM, but having the AM option is better than white noise. Am I missing anything here? Have you seen a breakdown of the AM ratings vs. FM for KNRS? I know that 570 has an excellent signal in Northern Utah both day & night thanks to its low dial position, but the FM signal is marginal there. Still, I wouldn't mind being able to hear Easy 99.1 up north, because 99.1 FM is occupied by what sounds like a distant country station in NE Ogden, and I rarely listen to KNRS except for Kim Komando's show. Putting Easy 99.1 on 570 would be akin to returning the frequency to its "KLUB 57" roots, which was an easy listening/MOR station for many years before the station started simulcasting KISN 97 in the late 1980's.

KBZN 97.9 and KSQN 103.1 are also advertising the Valentine's Day contest on their respective web sites, so it's not exclusive to KLO. I wonder if Capital is giving away a prize for each station, or if they're going to combine all the entries for their three stations and just give away one prize?

Has anyone seen any promotions for the Valentine's Day package at the Alaskan Inn KLO is giving away? It would be a perfect opportunity to promote their new format, but I'm not sure if they're advertising the giveaway outside of Facebook & KLO's web page.

A couple of things. KLO actually acquired that callsign in 1929, not 1934. (Better late than never.) The next bit is a puzzlement though. You cite Wikipedia as the source saying that KDYL is now Radio Unica. Were you not the person who put that information in the Wikipedia article in the first place? Nope! I don't have a Wikipedia account and I never have. Nevertheless, what's airing on KDYL now is indeed Radio Unica, since it's running parallel to KFUR-LP in St. George which airs the same format.

According to Wikipedia, the new KDYL format is Radio Unica, which formerly aired on KBJA 1640 and KHQN 1480. FWIW, KDYL (and KMRI 1550) have been operating with full 10 KW daytime power 24/7 for at least a month now, and apparently the FCC has yet to notice.

I've seen no promotion outside of KLO's web site and their Facebook page, but that doesn't mean much. Being a radio geek, I spend most of my time listening to the airwaves rather than watching TV. :-) The most logical way to promote the new format would seem to be local insertion spots on cable and/or digital subchannels like MeTV and Antenna TV.
