I wonder if this partnership exists with Bonneville and the Utah Jazz because 97.5 The Zone's signal is on Humpy Peak. We also know that the boosters along the Wasatch don't work very well. The signal from 95.7 can't be heard very well in the Salt Lake and Utah Valley without the boosters. I wonder if this might be the main reason for the partnership.

I should have written that some station employees got pink slips. Maybe not enough to justify using the word "lots".

I'm assuming this is some sort of LMA. Will KSL employees now be doing most of the heavy lifting, much like when KJZZ was operated by KSL-TV? Will the Zone studios leave the arena, and everything be operated from existing KSL studios at Triad? Are the Zone engineers still going to maintain the two stations' far-away transmitter sites, or are they all gone now? Lots of questions...

Also "The Zone" brand has some cachet in the market, but I wonder if they'll rebrand to "KSL Sports 1280".

It appears that the Millers have divested of a lot of things lately. The Jazz and the Arena, some of their holdings in the Bees, etc. They just sold off the auto dealerships this week. The FCC filings seem to show members of the family keeping only a very minor interest in various things, maybe just as a way to stay informed of what the new owners are doing.
What do they still own of Larry's business empire? Are they planning to turn whatever money they make in to some sort of charitable trust legacy, sort of like the Huntsmans. Are we looking to a future cure for Diabetes, for instance, with the Miller family fortune to thank? That could be a monumental legacy.

When did KSL broadcast the Jazz. I know they were the original broadcasters of the Jazz once they moved to Salt lake. But from when to when before KISN 570 took over and eventually 1320 KFNZ.

It appears that one of my favorite weekend radio shows may be a casualty of Bonneville's agreement with 1280 The Zone. "Utah Car Cents" has been on KZNS Saturdays from 10 AM-Noon for years now, and when I tuned in this Saturday morning, there was some Fox Sports football program airing instead. It could be that The Zone's regular Saturday programming has been preempted because of a pro or college football game, but I'm not so sure. Although Utah Car Cents is still listed on The Zone's website schedule, so is Gordon Monson's weekday show, and Gordon was one of the employees that was let go. 🙁
EDIT: I've confirmed that Utah Car Cents and its host Austin Horton are one of the "casualties" of Bonneville's agreement with The Zone. Per a post on Austin's Facebook page dated September 30TH, he was one of the employees who received pink slips. Too bad: Austin had worked for The Zone for 13 years at the time he was let go, and I'd been listening to Utah Car Cents since Tom Barberi was one of the hosts 5+ years ago. 😢

Well I'm hoping Austin and Gordan end up at KALL 700. It's only been 2 days and The Zone has turned into a BYU station very little talk on Utes? I'm not a BYU hater but.... It's leaning that way on The Zone. I'm a sports person that follows all teams in Utah but have love for Utes but I'm also really proud to know that we have good teams up north in Utah State and Weber and down in SUU. Just want fairness in sports talk.

I'm interested to know exactly what a "select" number of Jazz games on KSL entails. 5? 75? I suspect it will be a minority of the games or else they would have said the regular station for the games would be KSL and the Zone stations would be used for conflicts.
Running at least some games on the huge 1160 signal could be useful in attracting fans in far flung areas that wouldn't normally even try to listen to a Jazz game. That is, if they can find the AM button on their radio. Closer to home I'm sure the better signals on both AM and FM I think could only help listenership, though how that would affect revenue is less clear. Instead of selling different programming on each set of signals there's now only one. (Same argument I make with 94.9/101.9)
The boosters were always a given with the Humpy rimshot stations dating back 20 years.
From the phrasing in the article, this sounds like an LMA to me. That could always change of course. I don't know if under the previous Millers' ownership or the Smith ownership they actually had transmitter engineers on staff as opposed to contract engineers. I think Bonneville has engineers on staff, right Ken?

I heard that KZNS had a contract with Broadway to do their engineering. KSL had three radio engineers on staff, the last time I knew. I wonder if that will change. Sadly, trying to tell people how to receive MW stations is nearly impossible. Maybe the Deseret News Radio and TV writer could write something about it 🙄.

Speaking of sports on KSL radio, I noticed when I was looking at the station's schedule earlier that "Unrivaled" has been cut by one hour. It's now on weeknights from 8-9 PM, and the 7-8 PM time slot is now home to "The Player's Club", whatever the heck that is. When I click on the link for The Player's Club, it takes me to the page for KSL radio's podcasts. Maybe the 7-8 PM time slot on weeknights is going to be devoted to a different podcast each night? 🤔

I realize this will never be but I wish companies were required to give a full on explanation as to why on air talent are let go and why they pick some talent over others. At the beginning of the pandemic, Tony Parks was let go from KZNS. In my opinion, Tony is more talented than someone like Jake Scott who survived the pandemic cutbacks and the Bonneville takeover. Austin Horton always did the playoff overtime shows which were great. I listen to several NBA broadcasts and there are still some that take listener calls after every game. The Jazz used to do that but for some reason the current trend has steered away from listener calls. Was Gordon Monson too controversial? Was it because he works for the competing newspaper? But, that doesn't make sense because David James works for the competing television station. These guys obviously know what they're doing, or at least they think they do, but, to me, on the outside looking, or should I say, listening, in, it just seems so random. Why is Alex Lundberg still there and Austin Horton not? Maybe they were making too much money. I'd be interested in people's thoughts and guesses on this.
