I wonder how much revenue KTUB is actually losing from not broadcasting? Some expenses, such as power, would be reduced if they never sign back on the air but instead continue as an Internet-only station. I have no idea how much less advertisers would be willing to pay. Would advertisers be accepting of metrics based on how many devices are taking the stream? If an advertiser wants to reach Latino Jazz fans, buying a spot on KTUB might still be the best way to do that.

I'm not holding my breath, either.
By the way, am I the only one who thought from the thread title that one of the local AM stations had decided to experiment by programming jazz music? I think an AM station could do worse than putting on a blend of jazz, swing, and big band.

So, 1160 is running "live", without the HD delay. Bring back the Nauvoo Bell!

Of course it is true that radio stations can only "broad"cast. But radio is thus failing now for the same reason that broadcast tv is failing -- people no longer have to put up with lowest-common-denominator programming. I almost never listen to Christmas radio stations because what they broadcast is a train wreck of different styles and eras. Maybe "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" immediately after "Oh Holy Night".

The other day when it was snowing a little, I decided to listen to a stream of instrumental Christmas music. Why doesn't any OTA radio stations try it? I've said this before -- 570 AM would have been the perfect spot for the Bloomberg business news format. Those who are its target market would have found their way to it.

I recall a rumor that KFAM (AM 700) was owned by a bunch of dentists back when they played beautiful music. Some kind of tax reduction strategy. I have no idea if that rumor was true. But that is all that comes to my mind regarding unusual station owners. Well, them and the Hare Krisnas with 1480 AM.

I returned the rental car yesterday, so no more HD radio for me. But before I did, I compared Business 99 on 99.5 HD2 with it on 99.1. To me, 99.1 sounded much better. 99.5 HD2 was muddy and was about 30 seconds behind 99.1. So obviously, the 99.1 translator is not getting fed from 99.5 OTA. I was in West Jordan around 90th South and Redwood.

The error was that Midvale should have been mentioned first, right?

I listened this evening, about 20 minutes ago. KSL-FM HD2 was carrying Fox Sports Radio (so I assume that that was The Zone. KSL-FM HD3 was the LDS programming.

I'm going to hate having to return the rental car on Tuesday. All of the HD stations sounded great today, including KUER HD3, the classical format. (From Minnesota Public Radio?)

The HD2 feed of 1370's classic country sounded great yesterday on the rental car's radio. MUCH better than the AM OTA signal. Too bad that country music is not my thing. KRSP HD2 did not sound good then (very quiet, I had to turn up the volume) but perhaps that signal was powered down right then for the Farnsworth work.

Just my luck. One of our cars was in an accident, so we have a rental car that actually has HD radio. I was looking forward to listening to KUDD HD2 when I went shopping later today.
