I just turned the radio on, after charging batteries all afternoon. The hum sounds much worse than this morning! They did some electrical work yesterday, and cut power to all the equipment. They disconnected the UPS while down, and forgot to hook it back up. I hope nothing more serious is happening now. They aren't officially "on the air" yet, so they weren't in crisis mode about being off.

KDYL is back on the air now (Thursday morning), but no telling if it's permanent or if they're still sorting out some technical difficulties. There's no trace of the AC hum that was present yesterday; in fact the audio sounds very good to my 50 something ears. 🙂

They were planning to do some more electrical work over the weekend. KDYL has been off the air again since at least Noon today--I wonder what the problem is now?? Methinks someone may have gotten more than they bargained for by buying KDYL!

Why does there have to be a problem? You could probably count the number of listeners on two hands, so there would have to be a good reason to leave the transmitter on before any actual launch. If it were me I'd want to put the entire air chain through thorough testing but after that who cares?

If it were me I'd want to put the entire air chain through thorough testing but after that who cares? I thought when KDYL went back on the air earlier this month, that was the actual launch. They've been testing the transmitter on and off since November of last year, so I figured that six months was enough time for all the technical issues to be taken care of. I guess I was wrong. BTW, do we have any idea what the actual launch date for KDYL is? If someone has mentioned it before on this board, I don't recall seeing it.

Could yesterday's thunderstorms and lightning have had anything to do with it?

Yes, and even tough we have not yet officially launched, we were not planning to be off the air but only for short periods of time 30 or 40 minutes if ever, but as someone said ... it looks as if KDYL was haunted... the thunderstorm fried our power supplies for the transmitter. We are planning to go back on air by Saturday, after we thoroughly check the lightning arrester. I am probably going to have to get a system to keep lightning away. Zeus loves our tower too much.

Thanks for that update. It's always great to get information from an inside source.
In rereading my previous post I realized that it might have come off harsher than I intended, so I apologize for that. I wasn't intending to demean your efforts.

What's the latest on KDYL?

I've been checking 1060 (and 1550 as well) every day for at least the past three weeks, and I've heard nothing on either frequency. I'm wondering if the supply chain issues/pandemic/labor shortages are creating an unusually long delay in the delivery of new power supplies for KDYL's transmitter.

What's the latest on KDYL? There's a very weak carrier on 1060 this afternoon (2:45 PM)--No more than 2-3 S units in NE Ogden. Maybe the new power supplies for the transmitter finally arrived, and the engineer is doing some testing before adding audio to the signal.

It sounds like KDYL is either testing again or has finally returned to the air. I'm hearing some variety of Mexican music on 1060 at 9:15 tonight, instead of the usual comedy programming from "Funny 1060" CKMX. Audio quality is loud and clear, with no hum or the off frequency rumbling that's plagued KDYL's signal in the past.

I heard it a bit after you did and I agree that it's probably KDYL.

TOH ID at 10:00 AM confirms it as KDYL. The carrier is reading 1.060.000 Mhz, which I think was fixed a month ago.
