The sale of KDYL has consummated (closed), and the license has been reassigned from Mountain View Broadcast, LLC (James Su) to Radio Activo 3, LLC (Eric Palacios). As near as I can tell from reading the filings in the FCC database, the sale was consummated on April 9, 2021, and the transfer of license was approved by the FCC on April 11. transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/amq?list=0&facid=27458

I think the Mexican-format station cleaned out the old KDYL studio long ago. That's what their neighbors said. They thought it was hauled away, "around the corner" someplace. Just a couple of antennae and the old van were left when I last drove by. There's a guy up in Oregon (IIRC) that trades in old radio and recording gear and musical instruments. He took a ton of old KSL stuff, and bought some of Dennis Silver's estate. He mighy be interested.

It seems strange that the Radio Unica folks would have moved the studio equipment out of the old building, unless they were putting it in storage at James Su's request. As far as I know, Radio Unica was just LMA'ing KDYL from Su, who bought the station from Ralph Carlson in 2015. I sure would like to have the "Real Oldies" Chevy van, though! www.johninarizona.com/utah/utah.html

Unfortunately John in Arizona is wrong about the callsigns for 1060. The KZNS calls have never been on 1060. He probably got confused because the current KZNS 1280 was KDYL for almost 20 years. KDYL was also once on 1010. It's very confusing.

Fun random fact as I look through the history at KSOP. Originally they were supposed be on the air at 1060AM but for some reason they were handed 1370 later on.

Radio Unica was LMAing KDYL and has its own Studios in Salt Lake, Park City and Saint George. We never had access to KDYL's Old equipment and I am not sure if James Su purchased the Old KDYL studios with the Station. KDYL was purchased with no studio equipment and with the Old 10K Continental '65 Transmitter with Exciter issues and no Tower Lease. Which had to be re-negotiated. For those who hope to have back the Oldies format... you are going to be disappointed, as it will stay in Spanish. Business Offices and Studios will soon re-open in West Valley and Orem for Interviews and Public Access.

Who owns the tower right now? And, is the power on at the site? Asking because the power was shut down back in 2020 (the day of the Idaho quake), and it ran for a bit with no tower lights. A NOTAM was issued, and then the station came back on for a few days, then went back off the air. No idea if the lights are on or not. The NOTAM was set to "max" for an expiration date, which was this coming September. Are the lights back on, the NOTAM cleared, and someone monitoring the tower lights for compliance?
Are you keeping the Continental transmitter? I know a guy who works on them (including complete rebuilds). PM me for his info.

I seriously doubt anyone expected the "Real Oldies" format to return to 1060. The AM band in Salt Lake City has become the home of news/talk, sports talk, religious, and Spanish language stations. It seems like no one wants to take a chance and think "outside the box" and try something different on AM in this market, with the exception of Frank's (fmdj1) oldies station KWLO 1580, and classic country on KSOP-AM. IMO, that's one of the reasons radio has declined in popularity in recent years. It's gotten to the point where one can hear the same crappy programming on AM & FM in almost every large to mid-size radio market in the U.S. To find anything different or unusual on broadcast radio these days, you have to be in a small town or a rural area where local radio still has a loyal, dedicated audience. And yes, I know that the demographics for AM radio in general, and oldies/adult standards formats in particular, aren't attractive to advertisers. I've heard that explanation dozens of times from lots of different people who work in the broadcasting industry. It still doesn't explain why radio broadcasters mostly ignore those who are over 50, when they're the generation that was raised on radio and are hungry for a station or format that caters to their age group. Contrary to popular belief, not all of us who are over 50 are set in our ways and have one foot in the grave. I just hope Broadway Media doesn't 86 KOOL 105.5 like iHeart did with Easy 99.1, because 105.5 is the first station since the "Real Oldies" KDYL that's been willing to play music with a copyright date prior to 1975. Off my soapbox for now! 😏
P.S. I hope KDYL'S new owner is going to repair or replace the transmitter, and pay attention to how the signal that they're broadcasting sounds! The old Xmitter was close to 100 Hz off frequency, and it sounded AWFUL! Please don't be like the Spanish language station in my neighborhood (KOGN 1490) that frequently broadcasts dead air for 4-5 days at a time! That's a terrible waste of 1 kW of RF energy! 🙄

1060 is on the air. Sounds like just filler music.

It does sound like the old Continental transmitter has been repaired and is putting out a clear, strong signal; either that or the transmitter has been replaced. So far I haven't heard a legal ID, but that doesn't surprise me. KDYL has violated FCC rules several times since the station was sold in 2015. I'll be interested to see if the transmitter powers down at sunset like it should, and if the low rumbling off frequency hum is still present after dark.
It's too bad the filler music isn't going to be the regular format. I don't recognize some of the artists whose songs I've heard, but I've really liked all the music I've heard so far. It's kind of a cross between lite rock and what used to be called middle of the road, or MOR music. I wonder why the new owner chose to return KDYL to the air with the filler music instead of just taking the plunge with whatever Spanish language format they're planning on airing. No matter--I'll enjoy the music until the new format is in place.

They are probably working on getting a studio put together.

They are probably working on getting a studio put together. That makes sense, especially since I keep hearing mentions of "Barix Audio Over IP" in between songs. At this point, KDYL's "studio" is probably a computer sitting in a closet in an undisclosed location. 😉

If you are hearing "Barix Audio Over IP", that means they are broadcasting one of Barix's test connection channels. That would explain why there is no legal. That's an interesting choice...

Hi Frank . . . I've also been hearing mentions of "DMD2, customized radio made in Switzerland" as well as the Barix spots on KDYL. I did some research earlier, and DMD2 and Barix Audio have collaborated on an audio product at least once in the past. It's definitely an interesting mix of music that I've been hearing on 1060 today: everything from the Beatles "Lady Madonna" to Lady Gaga's "Poker Face", with a few Spanish pop tunes and some hip hop thrown into the mix.
