Guys, come on. I take back what I said before. Moving an AM format with no measurable ratings and demos in the stratosphere to replace an FM with good (for a rimshot) ratings and MUCH lower demos would be insane.

The attorney for El Sembrador has filed a new Form 302-AM with the correct information for KLO, presumably to replace the one for KRPU which was filed in error last month. Perhaps this means El Sembrador and Capital Broadcasting are getting closer to consummating the sale of KLO. It's now been two months since the sale of the station was announced.

No consummation is going anywhere until the FCC approves the deal, which as of today hasn't happened. Nonetheless the new filing does give us some new insight. One, we know the new callsign for 1430 will be KMES. Two, their lawyer uses copy and paste without double checking the contents. See how on page 21 KLO/KMES is supposed to serve Enterprise NV. Besides, I'm not sure how much I trust a lawyer who apparently didn't even spend the $12/year to register a domain name for his business.

Apropos call letters! It sounds like, based on the message above, the new owners could make a MESs of things. If that was an inappropriate comment for this forum, please feel free to take it down with my apologies. Joking aside, isn't the name of the company El Semprador, or something similar? MES is perhaps a reversal of their first three letters. Or do you guys think that call sign is just random?

I think a little lighthearted jab at the mistakes is fine, and besides it's kind of true! I would blame the attorney though and not El Sembrador Ministries (you were close.)
As to the meaning, in Spanish it would be Ministerios del Sembrador. KMDS is already taken, but if you change it slightly to Ministerios El Sembrador (I don't think that's actually correct grammar but it's in the ballpark) then you would get MES. "Mes" is also "month" in Spanish but that doesn't seem likely. Just guessing here.

It appears that the mistakes made by El Sembrador's attorney in filing the FCC paperwork may have delayed the completion of the sale. Oh well, at least the towers have been painted, and we know what the new call sign will be for 1430. 😏

What makes you say the mistakes are the reason the sale hasn't been completed yet? A check of other recent sales I could think of off the top of my head shows 2-3 months is pretty common. The lack of converting the station to non-commercial I would think would delay the consummation but the assignment of license is a separate matter.

It was just speculation on my part, CA. The first Form 302-AM that was filed by El Sembrador's attorney was incorrect, and the FCC probably contacted him/her and requested a corrected form. Maybe the paperwork goofs had nothing to do with the delay, but I'd imagine the FCC isn't going to approve the sale until everything is done correctly.

The assignment of license to El Sembrador has finally been granted by the FCC. It appears they're still waiting on the license modification approval to change 1430's status to non-commercial, and once that's approved, the new owner should be ready to take over.

FWIW: KLO has been broadcasting dead air theater since about 3 PM Monday afternoon, which could mean that a format change/transfer of ownership is imminent.

Dead air is also what KLO's Internet stream has. So I do think the changeover is imminent. Previously, when technical difficulties interrupted KLO's OTA signal, the stream was still available.

KLO has been broadcasting with extremely low modulation for several weeks. Yesterday, the only audio was the hourly "CBS News", which was equally low-level. So, there's at least one knob "potted-up" on their board, but no other sources. Where are their studios?

The offices for Capital Broadcasting are located at 257 E 200 S STE 400 in Salt Lake City. I don't know if they actually have a studio for anything other than KBZN 97.9 and KSQN 103.1. The "studio" for KLO could be just a room with the automation equipment for the Westwood One feed of America's Best Music and CBS News.
What I don't understand is why KLO is broadcasting dead air instead of leaving the WW 1 audio on 1430 until El Sembrador takes over. Capital could also shut off the transmitter without having to file an STA with the FCC, as long as the station is off the air for 10 days or less. Maybe someone with experience in the broadcasting business has an explanation for the dead air on KLO, but I certainly don't.

Just talked to someone at Capital Broadcasting. She checked to see if it was OK to give the latest status... KLO officially changed hands today. I noticed that there was no CBS News at noon, just the carrier.
Maybe someone is swapping wires at the transmitter, as we speak??

The Westwood One music feed is back on now @ 3:45 PM. Since KLO has officially changed hands, I wonder if they'll have some sort of sign off before the programming change. KLO is one of Utah's oldest radio stations, and it survived the Great Depression, Great Recession, several wars and numerous other calamities. It will be interesting to see if they go out with a bang or a whimper.
