Yes, it's time for that annual battle of opinions. Presumably both of the big AC powerhouses (KOSY & FM100) along with several smaller stations will be going all Christmas this year. Any guesses on when?

Usually 106.5 starts playing xmas music in November or earlier. I'd bet on them first.

At least once it's been on Halloween. I think it's been 2 or maybe 3 times now. (That just drives me bonkers.)
If they're going to repeat this year, I'd imagine the promos will start soon. I don't listen to the station other than occasionally for Showtunes Saturday Night, so I won't be much help there. I heard CC's flagship A/C station (WLTW New York) already has not one, not two, but three Christmas webstreams already running.

Bob Morey will be first. I'd guess Star 96.7 will flip on October 30.
KOSY will flip on October 31.
KSFI will start rotating Christmas into the playlist on November 1, with a full rotation by November 14.
B98.7 will start adding Christmas on Thanksgiving Day, with a full rotation the week before Christmas.
The Breeze ... well, I'm guessing they'll flip to obscure hip-hop ... tomorrow.

November 3 is the most likely date to get 5 full weeks out of the winter book before it's done. The book is actually done on December 10 so anyone that flips full time after that will not get the "Christmas kiss" - I suppose that is partly why KOSY and FM100 started going so much sooner.
Thanksgiving is also *late* this year, falling on November 27.
Oct. 31st is a Friday this year so I could almost see KOSY doing that again like they did (3?) years ago.

The pendulum at The Breeze has swung back toward the A/C side quite a bit lately. If they can get a marketing campaign together, they would be in a good position to be the alternative for those deserting FM100 & KOSY for being too Christmas intensive.

Due to merchant demand, October 24th.

If I read the KOSY website correctly, their countdown to Christmas clock has them going at Midnight Nov. 1st. Think this will make them the winner (or loser depending on you POV)?

Ugh. Flash.
After doing a few gyrations to get things working, yes the clock is counting down to midnight Nov 1. (Is it really so hard to just put a banner with the actual time and have people figure it out, or are the web designers at CC trying to justify their existence?)

So here is an interesting thought. Do you think it possible that FM-100 might be delayed getting into the annualy Christmas derby if they decide to do song tagging on the Christmas library?

I doubt it. A lot of libraries come with all that sort of thing already, and even if it didn't then I'm sure they were making preparations long before we were discussing it. Not something you can throw together at the last minute and have it sound good.

Of course we could open up the whole can of worms as to how "good" (subjective, I know) FM-100's song tagging sounds, but that's a topic for another thread. However, I have never heard of libraries shipped with tagging included (I'm thinking like from TM or wherever.) Would you be kind enough to shed more light in tagged libraries?

That wasn't the type of tagging I had in mind. I was thinking of digital tagging.

It's Monday November 3rd and both KSFI 100.3 and KOSY 106.5 are playing Christmas music.

"FM100" was clearly too concerned about losing that 'Christmas' brand so they chose to flip at the same time (basically) as KOSY. I'm assuming they've looked back at past diaries and seen how stations have trended in this last period of the diaries.
In the future, we may see Christmas come later, since the PPM will be a more accurate picture of listening.
As a reminder, the fall book ends December 10, so that's just one reason adult contemporary stations flipped around (or sometimes before) Thanksgiving. This year that would have only been about 2 weeks of holiday music - this way both stations get 5 and a few days. That should show results in at least 2 of the 3 trends in fall book. I guess people looking for ordinary tunes will have to flip to KBEE or KBZN. The question is... [glow=red,2,300]will they?[/glow]
