You know, Brian used to talk about a Translator up in SL or Davis County on his Freq that would keep him from having that bit of signal he does get into the west part of the Valley when the translator is down. Maybe somebody up there can let us know something about that.

Ok.. I guess I better weigh in on this... here's the you tube link on the 104.7 spots... there's 8 of them ... so far... www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=kylz+104.7&aq=fWhile the logo is definitely a "minimalist" thing... and the name of the station a totally ppm play.... the graphic animations are expertly crafted ... the audio flow of the spots reflects the texture of the radio staion. ... you really DO "sample" the station in 30 seconds.... you might wonder about some of the live cuts like the Who "My Generation".. why wouldn't you replace the live audio with the studio recording? I think the answer there is ...it is the station... and the emotional content of the live bits.... if you want NO budget spots.... you can compare the 104.7 spots to the ones The End did earlier this year... the old standard "flying album covers" or the JMY spots from their launch a few years ago ... the "random artist names in space" ploy.... Now... think about this station... if you saw a couple of these spots and tuned in the station... would you be disappointed with the station??? You know.. it is ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC. And, yes, the spots were somewhat less expensive than the going rate on package produced "TV for RAdio" spots... none of them could do the station like these do....

It'll should be there in O'Reilly Tonight at about 920p... And just for Henry.. . you can't do local inserts on Direct TV or Dish.. how could they do that??? With Wired Cable you have the local head-ends where they can insert local stuff... and are allowed up to 2 minutes an hour on most nets...

Actually... in ARB diary methodology the game was to try to "gimmick" the time spent listening reported.... and that is being thwarted with the PPM's... in fact the type of stations that can more roughly be categorized as old music based stations showed surprising strength in the original PPM tests in Houston and Philadelphia and in cities that PPM has subsequently gone "currency" that has held up. That old drill of going back on Thursday when it's time to mail in the diary and fill in all the days you forgot you had the diary are over. ... and typically in that situation you would say "oh yeah, I was on the road at 615 in the morning ... and it took 90 minutes to get to work and I listened to KSL the whole time" ... but the PPM showed you actually FIRST turned that radio on at 632... and it was still on KFNZ from the Jazz game the night before... but you punched out DJ and PK at 641 and went to KSL trying to get a traffic report but you missed so had to stay with KSL till about 650 then you went looking for some music... etc etc..." AND FOUR STATIONS got cumed and the 6 qtr hours you had written down for KSL in your diary only ended up be 2 (because it was at least five minutes in each of two quarter hours) and the rest was split up...
PPM will give some less up front stations an additional 20-40% cume... but it might not be signfiicant listenership in that cume... the lowest quintile in PPM will be much lower listenership and the lowest quintile in diaries... which basically didn't get reported before...
104.7 will be interested read .. and we'll have two diary books before we go PPM in SLC to see... And, yeah it does break a lot of those rules... but you know, Bill Drake did actually pass away this last year! (the guy that said "what you don't play can't hurt you")

In "The Day" when they first launched The Fever (KFVR) on 107.9 they had it configured so 107.9 would hit Utah Valley... but decided that the Booster configuration to get it into Utah Valley didn't do certain areas of Salt Lake Valley as good as could be done if they sacrificed Utah Valley.. so they did that. Then They tried to do the 103.9 from a tower Northwest of Nephi first but it splattered all over the place in Utah County except the east side of provo.. they they pulled that huge tower down and put the 103.9 main up in Indianola Utah (Sanpete Co) that allowed a booster on Lake Mountain... and then they started simulcasting 107.9 on that at 103.9.... 105.1 which is now simulcasting 97.5 is the same deal.. .Indianola main.. Lake Mountain Booster...

I can help here... the folks confusing you here is R&R.. not ARB or the stations.. here's the link to Arbitrons SIP page arbitron.com/radio_stations/station_information.htmyes, R&R shows KHTB to be 3 point... and KZZQ to be Citadel but that's just R&R's error.. the 12+ shares listed there are correct for the Fall 08 Book for KZZQ (including KAUU... go ahead.. look up KAUU in the SIP and see 105.1 The Blaze) etc. etc... but believe the Fall 08 Numbers are NOT the focus of conversation around town in Radio Group Offices.. it's the Miller Kaplan report on the billings of the stations.. market down 10% for the year.. 14% for 4th Quarter... several stations down (big ones too) 30% and more... and a some down 50% in some months... the blood is running deep ... I'm surprise there have not been bigger layoffs around town.
