Does anybody out there know any of the song names on the 5.3 weather channel? I have called KSL and nobody can help me, the first guy told me that those songs were made specific for KSL and then the new guy told me that he would try and shazam (?) the songs with his phone, he emailed me back and said he had no luck but he thought a couple of the songs were Kenny G. They are the same 6-ish songs just looping, but it helps me sleep at night and I like the songs. My fear is that one day I'm going to turn it on and it will be new music and then I'll never get to sleep. So if anybody can help me out, I would really appreciate it.

The package was made specifically for KSL Live-5 Weather, by Non-Stop Music, recorded at L.A. East Studios in Salt Lake City. Their website is: www.nonstopmusic.com/us/homepage.aspxAFAIK, you can record a CD of the music off the air for your own personal use, and have it for an "archive" copy. We have no immediate plans to update the music.

Odd thing is, I heard one of the tracks on a commercial a few weeks ago. I don't even think it was KSL I was watching at the time. Any chance they double sold it?

Was it a local spot? As I understand it, it was a custom package. Maybe somebody lifted it, or maybe we just bought rights to an existing package. (The guy who negotiated it is gone, so "who knows".)

I honestly don't remember. There was only a small bit that I heard, but I've heard them all on 5.3 so many time that it was instantly recognizable.

I heard one of the songs on a commerical as well, I think it was for United Way?? I think it was on 2.2 in the morning, when I heard it I instantly recognized it from the Weather channel, and then remember the Hughes guy from 5.3 telling me the music was made specifically for 5.3 and you couldn't get it anywhere, so it gave me hope that maybe those songs were somewhere out there to be found afterall. When I last contacted 5.3 the guy told me he couldn't shazam the songs, but thought a couple were Kenny G. Thanks for the info Kenglish!! I knew I could count on this board to get me a little closer to finding the songs!!

We're only as good as the people who post here, and we've got a lot of great ones like Ken. Thanks Ken.
It does actually makes a lot of sense that a United Way PSA might have used that music. That seems like the type of production that Bonneville would do, and they might have borrowed the music that has already been purchased rather than having to pay a royalty or something. And then of course it would be used across multiple stations, Bonneville or not. Is the Utah Broadcasters Association for TV also or just for radio?

I contacted someone at Nonstop Music with my sob story...hopefully they will reply. I asked if they had a list of the songs, atleast then I could get them from itunes or the library or amazon....somewhere!! Or I asked if they would just sell me the CD. I will post on here if they reply back to me, or if you guys don't care, I won't worry about it. I really appreciate the help.

I like the suggestion that you just jack the audio into your laptop and record them with Audacity (free) and edit them down to single MP3 tracks you can load on a CD or iPod, whatever.

Luckycat, if you hear anything back I'd like to know.
Now Timmy, I can't believe you're suggesting that piece of crap. The recording software that I got with my first sound card back in 1993 was better than Audacity. It takes some audacity to suggest Audacity. (Ok it really doesn't but the play on words was too good to pass up.) I tried it last year and on loading a standard podcast downloaded off the net it decided that the mono file I loaded would sound much better if it were a stereo file with garbage in the right channel. To get anything to work at all I needed to run the beta version and that was only barely tolerable. There has to be some freeware available somewhere that's halfway decent. Me, I just went back to Goldwave.

I am a big fan of Audacity. I've not had much trouble with it. It takes a little learning but I imagine Audition wouldn't be a quick pick-up either.

No Audition is not a quick pick up (I can vouch for that), but if you know Cool Edit, you're about 3/4 of the way there already.

I hear that the music will be changing soon. I was also told that it's not custom made, but the package was assembled for us from a larger package.

Oh it can't be true?!?!?! I emailed nonstop music and have never heard back I'm going to be so sad if/when it changes. Thanks for the warning, now I won't be in complete shock when my music is gone.....I know it's a stupid simple thing, but it's been a nice thing to get to sleep to. Thanks again for all your help.

You shouldn't feel too bad about not hearing anything. Most of their time is probably being spend courting paying clients, and since you aren't likely to be shelling out the big bucks to buy the rights to use the music it would be logical if they put your letter toward the back of the queue. They're landing some pretty nice deals though. There's a new item on their website about the trailer for the new Anne Hathaway movie. The music was fine, but I was more interested in the movie and I want to see it. Not coming out till August though. Probably not what they were aiming for by linking to the trailer but some good came of it.
