Well when I win the lottery....which reminds me I need to check my powerball ticket this week ....when I win I will call them up and ask to buy the music from 5.3! I guess I should just move on and find some other music. I've noticed when I was searching YouTube that there are actual weather channel CD's that you can buy!! Crazy. I'll let you know WHEN/IF I ever hear anything. I can't be the only one out there that is addicted to this stupid music.

Lucky Cat, I'm not so sure I understand how all of that weather music was custom-created for KSL specifically. That's because when I worked at the then-UVSC as a camera operator shooting telecourses, my boss used some of that music for them. I specifically remember one of those being used as the theme music for the latest version of General Biology (with Jim Harris) that I think still airs on KUEN (9.1) and KBYU (11.1). (In the credits, look under "Camera Operators" or "Cameras" for the name Mike A. Christensen. That's me.)
I never found out what that music is named, but the name of the music library some here have metioned here does sound familiar. And it was interesting to spot it being used on 5.3 several years later. I was like, "OH! Some of that's the music we used in our biology telcourse!" And in fact, I think we may have used some of the other music that 5.3 uses on some of our other telecourses. I think some of it is by Michael Dowdle. I'll have to go back and listen to 5.3 again, but longer, to double-check.
It's been so many years since we shot that that I doubt even my boss would remember what it's called. I could ask him, still, but I can just about guarantee that he won't remember. Still, though, maybe I'll call him and ask him just for kicks and see if he could actually remember it. Hopefully I'll remember to come back here and update you on what I find out from him.
Man, shooting those telecourses was such fun work! I shot most of 5 of them and a tiny bit of a 6th one (and I even got to make an appearance or two in 2 of them!), but sadly, not all of them still air. I wish I could still go back and shoot some more of them! Getting to do that was one of my dreams come true!
Thanks for giving me another good excuse to write to people about my great experiences there and relive those a little bit! Ahhh, the days...!
A few years ago, until a budget cut, I even got to be a camera operator for this channel 5 we're talking about here! Maybe I'll reapply after I've gotten to be a contestant on one of the game shows that airs there (now that I'm eligible again to be on one).
Good luck,
CAMERA OPERATORS
Mike A. Christensen (And someone else...)

You know what would be a good idea? Cut a deal with the music provider (whoever that is) to stick an announcement in the rotation of slides giving contact information at least. It's easy advertising and then the rights to the music could be obtained for a lower fee and the provider gets additional traffic and eyeballs. It's a win-win. Very few people have the dedication that Luckycat does in trying to hunt this stuff down. You can't rely on that.
