This leads to three questions. 1 Why did they switch from KALL? 2 Is Bill Riley still their play-by-play announcer since he's an employee of Broadway Media? and, 3, The post mentioned 1160 so is KSL AM finally going to switch away from KSL FM? I think it has been a straight simulcast since 10207 became KSL FM. I want to say that was 2005 but I wouldn't swear to it. That is really interesting.

I think it has been a straight simulcast since 10207 became KSL FM. I want to say that was 2005 but I wouldn't swear to it. That is really interesting. I don't think Bill Riley is going to be doing the RSL play-by-play announcing this season, at least not according to Inside Radio. The article about the switch which was just published this afternoon states that the KSL Sports team will be doing the play-by-play and post game analysis, which doesn't surprise me at all. The KZNS announcers that had been doing the Utah Jazz play-by-play got ousted once Bonneville International took over the day to day operations of The Zone as well. The Inside Radio article does mention that the games will be broadcast on both KSL AM & FM and KZNS AM & FM stations. Not sure why the Facebook post only mentioned the AM frequencies, but as a fan of AM radio, I'm glad to see KSL not ignoring 1160 for a change. 🙂 Also, it's apparently only the English language RSL games that will be broadcast on KSL & KZNS; which makes me wonder if the Spanish language coverage will be on KDUT 102.3, since KTUB 1600 is still off the air. Maybe we'll have more answers this Saturday after the initial game is broadcast. www.insideradio.com/free/news-bites-bonneville-salt-lake-city-ask-me-anything-knx-am-fm-kyky/article_00fe16be-b3c5-11ed-8561-d700c37cefce.html

Looks like since MLS moved to Apple TV, David James is no longer TV play by play but now Radio play by play on The Zone along with Jay Nolly so yes it does look like Bill is no longer Radio Voice of RSL

This is a change from last year, right? I have to admit I didn't think of this as a possibility, but I should have. Dell Loy Hansen no longer owns the team so the synergy of having RSL on the co-owned KALL no longer exists. On the other hand, Ryan Smith owns the KZNS' (even though they're managed by Bonneville) and also owns part of RSL.
Being on the huge AM signal is going to be a big advantage to reach other markets. There was previously a deal with Sinclair putting RSL games on TV in places like Vegas, Boise and Reno. KSL(AM) should reach those easily at night to provide a complementary radio presence. KSL-FM ticks off the 'on FM' box best for the Wasatch Front and KZNS-FM extends the FM coverage eastward into eastern Utah and SW Wyoming where 102.7 doesn't reach. The sortof odd one is KZNS(AM) which is mostly redundant. If there's pre- and post-game coverage on 1280/97.5 that isn't on 1160/102.7 that could explain it. On the other hand, why not?

As far as I know, Juan 1600 (KTUB) is still streaming online. I'm guessing that's what the Alpha Media spokesperson was referring to.

Another reason for redundancy would be due to conflicts. I'm pretty sure KSL's number one priority is BYU football and men's basketball and KZNS FM's number one priority is the Utah Jazz. KZNS AM is also the flagship for the Utah State Aggies football and men's basketball. There is also the Salt Lake Bees which KZNS AM and FM both carry. I don't know how long RSL's season runs but, with all those other commitments, some of those teams are bound to have games at the same time.

I'm sure you're right that there will be conflicts, but the idea of having a backup station has been around for decades. If there's no conflict, I don't see why they couldn't offer another option and maybe gain an extra few listeners.

Well, we'll find out very soon because the Jazz will be about halfway through their game when RSL starts tonight. Will RSL be on KSL exclusively tonight or will 1280 take them too? "RSL on KSL!" Kind of has a nice ring.

I didn't know this at the time but BYU had a basketball game Saturday night as well so, as far as I could tell, the RSL game was exclusively on AM 1280. The Utes had a game too so, even if they had stayed on 700, RSL wouldn't have aired there. I don't know where those games were put when there were conflicts. I know back when KOOL was on 105.5 some games were put there.

Saw this image posted on the KSL Sports Twitter page today. Interesting that the logo for KSL Newsradio only shows the AM freq.

I'm not sure if that picture is showing up for anyone else, but it isn't for me. Here's a link to it if you need it. pbs.twimg.com/media/Fq8ryvCaYAEk4HE?format=jpg&name=smallFor whatever it's worth, it also only shows KZNS-FM. The Jazz are playing at 5PM local time tonight so could they only be on KZNS(AM)? I'm totally confused.
