The FCC has approved a move of K250AV on 97.9 up in extreme northern Utah. It had covered Bear Lake and little else. It's now going to cover basically Logan to the Idaho border, still on 97.9. I don't know what kind of signal Now 97.9 got up that way, but this can't make Capitol very happy.
The station is listed at the FCC as relaying Q92.

And another one bites the dust! or should I say another TWO! Frandsen has also filed to put up another Cache Valley Translator for KVFX (This will be it's 3rd) on 100.3. transition.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?list=0&facid=157245Both KBZN 97.9 and KFSI 100.3 come in pretty strong in Cache County. Q92 has a 100,000 watt signal in Cache County, yet it has a translator at 102.9 and soon 97.9. Q92 also airs the same format as Now 97.9 Frandsen's Top 40 station KVFX has a 94,000 watt signal yet it has translators at 98.3 and 97.1, which completely blocks out clear channel Top 40 97.1 ZHT in Logan. Starting to see a trend?? He's becoming known for rendering competing SLC stations unlistenable in Logan. KZHT 97.1,KBER 101.1, KEGA 101.5, KENZ 101.9, KSL 102.7 KRSP 103.5,KSOP 104.3, are all effected by his translators whether it by him placing his translator right on their exact spot on the dial or the dial adjacent. Sadly, until the FCC figures out the "Cache County loophole" Frandsen is going to continue blocking out SLC stations as he pleases, all the while listeners in Cache County will slowly lose listening options. I'm surprised no ones filled the FCC in on this.

The 60dbu contour doesn't make it past Brigham City, so this is perfectly legal to approve.
Here's the thing about translators and interference. Even outside a full power station's protected contour, translators are not allowed to cause interference. If the Salt Lake stations can find someone who will sign an affidavit stating that they used to be able to hear XYZ station but can't anymore because of a new translator, the translator has to be taken off the air. (Read the ongoing drama over W292DV in New York.) Thing is, I really wonder if the big Salt Lake stations care much. They don't market to the Cache Valley. It's probably not a big deal to them. It could be to a resident that happens to be in the coverage area of the translator (which isn't very much), but probably not worth the time of the affected broadcaster.

Some of us will care, when we have to answer phone calls about interference. Can somebody up there keep us informed (here) on when it tests or becomes operational? We can, at least, explain the situation to them.

You are naturally correct. I was thinking more of the suits in the high offices rather than the peons in the field.

Also, Here is a radio scan of commercial radio stations listenable in Logan. Almost all Salt Lake City stations can be heard in Logan. **Note** ZHT is completely blocked out by 94.5 98.3 VFX's translator located at 97.1. Also note the interference caused to stations like KSL 102.7, KBER 101.1, 101.5 The Eagle, etc. due to Frandsen's Translators. www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8q6k574Imw&feature=youtu.be

Good test. Have you been in contact with the Salt Lake stations or the FCC?

I have actually, so we'll see what happens..
**UPDATE***
As of today 7-29-13, NOW 97.9 (KBZN-FM) is no longer able to be heard in Cache County!! The Cache Valley Media group has turned on K250AV and and has Blocked out NOW 97.9!! 4 days after the youtube video documents that Now 97.9 worked up in Logan. Hopefully Capital can use the video to help get their signal back. In the mean time, FM 100.3 listeners in Logan watchout! Cache Valley Media group is going to kill your ability to listen in the next little while When they light up KVFX's 3rd Logan translator! The countdown commences..Talk about shady business practices in Logan..

Great video, and very sad. I do not, and can not fathom why VFX would need three translators to hit Logan. Is their main signal really that bad. I recall it wasn't... I could hear it in SLC on occasion. The interference with KBER and KENZ is uncalled for (as I imagine it would be for 97.9).

You gotta be kidding me, that translator is literally mere miles from the main 100kw! What the *#)@ is the reason for its existence. other than crowding the competition out. I wish someone from CVMG would explain.

There are possible explanations besides trying to block out the Salt Lake stations, but I don't know. Maybe they could be looking to build and sell? Is anyone going IBOC?

I also see no need for the 3 translators for KVFX. Its coverage appears to "cover" both Tremonton and Logan well enough for neither to be needed. Do they run adverts for businesses in Tremonton? I remember being able to receive all CVRG stations on I-15 heading up to Idaho just fine. I even heard several on the other side of the lake in the middle of nowhere in northwestern Utah (north of Wendover).
