As no one mentioned it, Alpha Media's 1600 AM was off for a time until Rocky Mountain Power was able to restore power to the Redwood Road corridor. The other two stations main transmitters were likely broadcasting open carriers, as again, there was no power at the studios.

I wish they'd consider adding these to TuneIn.com and/or another platform for online streaming. Through their websites isn't necessarily the best option. X96 has a cleaner sounding "classic alternative" on its HD2 than 103.1 The Wave's tin-can stream. I just discovered today that they are streaming a separate station called "energy 92.5" on KUUU HD2. So far it sounds great. Stream link here: Energy aka KUUU HD 2 Also U92 is 20!

Question- for stations that simulcast AM & FM (KNRS and KSL) do they total the ratings between the two signals, or are they only counting the one signal (for example, Nielsen reports ratings for KSL-AM) If they are a 100% simulcast, they can request "total line reporting." This is what most stations have done for their internet streams in PPM markets. This means any in DMA listening is combined into one ratings number. I am not sure in Salt Lake City, but the stations I've listened to do all seem to run the same on-air commercials as they do on the stream. I live out of market and know a little bit about the streaming insertion systems, so I heard when Broadway Media switched KXRK (for example) to insert national ads instead of local ones. However, once the national clients have served their impressions, it almost always goes back to some local content before the music/DJ resumes. In my market, a sports station was trying to report their stream separately from the on-air station but quickly realized that was a mistake and combined them back up. A public broadcaster in my market does have a small ratings share for their online stream, which they choose to report separately from over the air.

So Thursday night in SLC i definitely heard some interfeerance to 98.3. i could hear FVX, but could hear something else along with it and the whole thing sounded very distorted and static'y. Ensign Peak transmitter site was having some issues on Friday. I cannot speak for VFX, but I know that one of the main repeaters for two of the Humpy Peak stations went offline on Friday for a few hours. So maybe VFX's translator started out the problem on Thursday...? Just adding 2c. :-)

Portland Mercury: KMHD and Uncertain FutureFirst off, I've seem some radio rankers and KMHD is certainly not "en fuego" like this article suggests. Now on the other hand, it's questionable if a sample of just under 1,000 PPM users (and about 700 households) is an accurate reflection of the audience. On the other hand, the station is carried in farther corners of the state as a secondary audio on OPB and its many repeater transmitters (I believe KUED does something similar for KUER now?). Finally, not sure how much support KMHD actually raises. Jazz radio is tough. I think the dominant player in the northwest is KNKX in Tacoma. They were able to buy their signal from the controlling university, after a controversial decision where they also tried to bring it into the dominant public broadcaster in Seattle (KUOW-FM/Puget Sound Public Radio). Recently I received some mail from KNKX and it didn't even really talk much about their jazz programming, focusing more on the public radio tentpoles of Morning Edition/All Things Considered/Fresh Air, and their own local weekend show, Sound Opinions. Anyway, with the launch of BYU Radio onto a terrestrial signal in Salt Lake City, 3 other widely listened to public signals in-market, etc. just thought I'd start a discussion.

I for one, only listened to klo to hear jim rome. Guess it's back to iheart radio to find him. He's on a station from Anchorage Alaska that streams on iheart DXListener, we carry the show live through 102.9 and 750 the Game, KXTG in Portland. I'm sure they'd love to have another online listener. 10 am to 1 pm Mountain every day (except 2 days a year during March Madness initial matchups - LOL) KXTG Portland (also on iHeart Radio app and website)

The weekday talk schedule does have a decent amount of sports-oriented shows: 6am to 8 am is "Buenos Dias America" from Univision Deportes radio 8am to 10am is "El Tiradero" from Univision Deportes radio These replaced "El Show De Mandril" when that went off the air earlier this year. The afternoon already featured "Contragolpe" from 4 to 5 pm, a syndicated broader sports show, 5 to 6 pm "Pulso Deportivo," a local sports-talk show, and 6 to 7 pm "Futbol de Primera." (soccer) More info about the Univision Deportes content can be found here in English: Univision press release: Univision Deportes radioThe station had World Cup 2018 matches, continues as the Utah Jazz Spanish-language partner and carries Mexican soccer league games on the weekends.

It seems like the group here are being pretty hard on those Spanish music formats on AM. Ever listened to Juan 1600 when it's in music mode? Pretty sweet.

Then too, 102.3 and 106.3 have been off like all winter and are still off. *shrug* I guess they all have "auxillary transmitter" licenses or something. I've heard through the grapevine that 102.3 and 106.3 are reliant on Broadway for assistance / access at the main transmitter site. It's kind of funny that their closest viable competitor is also on the same site (104.7 & 107.1).

Is this the last time any radio station generated significant buzz in Utah? As I understand things, this caught quite the attention in 2001. Of course, the world was in a bit different place then.
