Well I guess it's official since they are saying The Eagle 101.5 and 105.5 Is the signal on 101.5 weak in areas of the Wasatch Front? Not a listener so I would not know if it is....also heard on KUDD HD2

I'm guessing that the 105.5 signal is for the benefit of listeners in Salt Lake and points south. I'm in Ogden and the 101.5 signal is loud and clear, but the 105.5 signal is mostly weak and noisy. Also, I'm receiving the RDS signal on 101.5, but if there's an RDS signal on 105.5, it's not strong enough to receive up north.

I hope this isn't permanent. if so, what a waste! Could help them get a slight bump in the ratings possibly. Was telling a friend last night that I wonder if they'll move the Eagle programming to 1055 and put something else on KEGA? Since SLC is the target market anyway. But I hadn't heard the promos mentioning both frequencies in the name. What do they say? 'Cut-Rate Country Programming, now on 2 FREQUENCIES! THE EAGLE!!!! At 1015, and now at 1055!'

The coverage is going to be the same (I think identical) to what 105.3 and 105.5 has when it was a KCPW-FM translator. The coverage even in central Davis isn't all that great. Weber is going to be pretty bad. I don't think there is much if any populated areas in Salt Lake County where the 105.5 signal would be stronger than the boosters on Ensign.
I think I might have figured out what they're trying to do. The signal from the Oquirrhs is non-directional, so it is also going west out to Tooele/Grantsville/etc. The 101.5 boosters can't get out that far. This opens up that part of the market for Eagle's signal, and commuters heading in along I-80 can just leave their radios on 105.5 all the way into Salt Lake.
I had considered the same thing that drpepper did about moving the Eagle programming only to the 105.5 signal and repurposing the other one, but that would only make sense if for some reason the vast majority of Eagle listeners were in Salt Lake County which I highly doubt. (And watch the attacks please.)

What your suggesting about covering west side of the valley makes sense, I wonder how far out the signal does go? And sorry about that last post.

Call it roughly the same width as the Salt Lake Valley only headed the other way. If you'd like a more visual representation, you can take a look at fccdata.org/?call=k288gy (You'll probably need to scroll the map out.)

It's now all way on top of the mountain.. not half way up as it was at 105.3... the big deal is the Humpy Peak stations really have problems out in the South west part of Salt Lake Valley... where all the meters are... and actually there are some places in Utah county like Springville where the humpy boosters on Y mountain are shielded from (totally unlistenable by main street Springville) 105.5 sounds fine all the way up 400 south in Springville...

If all the meters are in one place then somebody needs to talk to Nielsen because it is definitely not supposed to be that way. They are supposed to be as evenly distributed as possible.
Main St should be listenable (at least in theory). I'm going to guess that the reason the boosters are where they are is because the protected contour of the main doesn't quite reach Lake Mountain which is the logical place for the boosters to be. On the other hand, the booster's contour does, which shouldn't be allowed, though it probably doesn't matter all that much. If I owned the station and that were a concern for me, I would request a waiver and move the booster. There are other places the booster wouldn't be shadowed too. Even saying all that, the area that's shadowed from the Provo booster is tiny and the opportunity cost of using that 105.5 translator to cover that tiny area is huge. If they were going to use that translator anyway then getting that as a bonus is fine. If that was the primary reason than they're nuts. Anyway, the rimshots are always going to be at a disadvantage no matter what any owner does. You can't change the laws of physics.

You're right about the Humpy contour... right down middle of utah valley... cutting across Salt Lake Valley from Northwest to southeast corner... contour is actually east of i -15 below about 72nd south... back in the Diary days 84084 was the big zip with the most quarter hours returned... now it's like South Jordan and herriman... in UTC... Provo Zips had the biggest qtr hours a couple of years ago.. now last time I did a zip by zip extrapolation (laborius tedious lonnnnngggg process) Pleasant grove was the top returner... they are spread around... but some places do get over represented... it's the name of the game.. "meter meter who's got a meter"....

I noticed the billboard today for "Country 105.5" and there is no "Eagle" branding on it anywhere. So I am wondering if we will soon start hearing "reset your preset" on 101.5 KEGA, to be followed soon thereafter by 101.5 flipping to something other than Country. Or maybe keeping the Eagle branding but flipping to Country Oldies.

Throwing out branding that's been around for 14 years? I wouldn't think so. They did take a major ratings hit in Nov & Dec, but why would they throw out the branding if they're just moving the format to 105.5? amanuensis, where did you see this billboard?

I don't remember exactly where the billboard was. I think around Midvale. I was driving from downtown SLC to Lehi. It was one of the electronic billboards on the east side of the freeway when heading southbound.

I saw one today when I was down there. This one was on the east side of I-15 heading Northbound. Like around around 33rd south or so. Just "Country 105.5" and nothing else.

It looks like things just got even more official (if that's possible.) Radio Rancho is selling K288GY to Broadway and specifies KUDD HD2 as the primary. I guess they gave up on launching their own station. Sale price is $210,000.
I guess the next question is whether once the sale is approved Broadway will continue to simulcast The Eagle there or whether they will flip both ends to something else. I tend to think not, but here's why it might be possible. Broadway might have been treading water while this deal was being hammered out and once they own the translator they won't have to worry about the rug being pulled out from under them. Another question is the unclear status of their 92.1 translator K221GK which is currently silent due to "a potential co-channel interference issue." If 92.1 doesn't work out, could Broadway put KALL on 105.1HD2/K288GY? Maybe something else?
