Does anyone have any data they can share on the breakdown of how many people who listen to KSL listen on 1160AM vs. 102.7FM? A few years ago, maybe a year or so after the simulcast started, the numbers I saw showed that AM was still far ahead of the FM. I'm wondering if things have changed and whether the experiment is a success.

My 81-year-old grandma is the only person I know who still listens to 1160. I keep changing it to 102.7 FM for her, but ingrained habits die hard.
I'd be interested to know the split, too.

I actually listen to the AM sometimes when I'm driving. The FM is not always as strong going through some of the canyons, and with the talk shows sometimes it's easier to hear the phone callers better on AM. Perhaps due to the processing.

That's an interesting observation RC. If reception isn't an issue, are there any good reasons to choose one band over the other. Could the issue you're hearing be more the difference in tonal quality between the lousy phone quality and the studio mics? On AM it would be much less noticeable than on FM. Could your brain just be having a hard time switching between the two? The gives me an interesting idea. Maybe the FM could have its frequency response cut during program material and then spread to full response during commercials to make them "pop". Probably too radical an idea.

For news/talk, I'm AM all the way. I like the flattened sound.

I think for me a lot of it may have to do with being in a high noise environment like a car I tend to listen to the AM more. The flatter AM quality is easier to hear.
CA...I like your idea of making the commercials pop.:-) Many commercials are produced with more compression to make them sound louder in the first place. This might just enhance the effect!
