Tuning across the AM band earlier this afternoon, I picked up a strong signal on 1470 AM. Apparently the receiver for the bankrupt KOGN & KNFL has finally made arrangements to get KNFL back on the air long enough to prevent the station from losing its license. The station is broadcasting a good mix of Christmas music (if you're in the mood, that is). So far, no legal ID or any other identification has been heard. The only way I found out that it was KNFL broadcasting on 1470 was to search the FCC site for info. Here's the link for those who are interested: licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/cdbsmenu.hts?context=25&appn=101349265&formid=910&fac_num=129784The whole "wall to wall" Christmas music "format" with no ID's and no commercials sort of reminds me when the station aired almost every Pink Floyd song in the band's catalog before officially signing on with a legal ID back in 2006. It's deja vu all over again! ;D Update: just heard a legal ID of "KNFL, Tremonton" at 6:00 PM. Also, for those who haven't heard any of the songs from Bob Dylan's new Christmas album, save yourself some money and listen to the tunes on KNFL! Dylan's voice sounds HORRIBLE on the Christmas songs--like karaoke at the senior citizen's center.

Wow. KOGN actually made All Access. That's pretty good.

I'm hearing Spanish programming on 1470. Is that KNFL or something more distant?

You're hearing XERCN from Tiujana, BN, Mexico if your hearing Spanish, that is unless KNFL has gone Espanol.

KNFL is once again silent. I don't recall the exact date the station went dark, but it was sometime during the first week of January. Good thing, too, because the Christmas music was becoming old hat by then.

Perhaps so David, but the 12th day of Christmas wasn't until Jan 5. You could make a case it was ok until then.

KNFL is back on the air again. Flip flop.

KNFL is back on the air again. Flip flop. Yep, I'm hearing the station loud & clear in Ogden at 5:30 this afternoon. They're playing the same repeating loop of Christmas music that was on the station for about three weeks in December. I guess someone just doesn't want the holiday spirit to die in Northern Utah. ;D Either that or the receiver for the bankruptcy estate of Morgan Skinner's radio stations wants to get his money's worth for the $5,000 fee he had to pay to gain access to the KNFL transmitter. By the way, CA, trust me when I say the Christmas music was sounding tired (along with Mr. Dylan) by the first week in January. Being from Minnesota, I've always been a fan of Bob's music, but after hearing him croak his way through "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" for the 100th time, I think I've concluded that Bob Dylan really needs to pack in it permanently. He's already sunk to the self-parody level with his "Christmas In The Heart" CD.

When I saw him live in concert at the Saltair last year, I couldn't understand a word he said. I agree too, he needs to stop, he's rich enough.

Update: as of this afternoon (Saturday Feb. 6th), KNFL is off the air again. So it would seem that the on again, off again status of the station is much the same as it was when KNFL was simulcasting KOGN a couple of years ago. Ahhh . . . who wants to listen to Christmas music in February, anyway? Apparently the receiver of KNFL does! The station is back on the air as of 8:30 PM tonight--and I just heard a legal ID.

I'll blame the shutdown on Ken for starting that legal ID thread. You can't scare stations like that. They're more timid than rabbits.....

KNFL has vanished again, maybe for good this time? I haven't heard the station on air for at least four days now. Gee, maybe the endless loop of Christmas music finally wore out. On a related note, KOGN 1490 was recently granted an extension to remain silent for financial reasons by the FCC. According to the FCC web site, the station has until November 22nd of this year to resume broadcasting or lose its license. Anybody want to buy a 1,000 watt graveyard station cheap?

I found it funny that they were still running Xmas music when I last heard them Friday afternoon. I mean they probably have only one listener, who is the junkie who loves Xmas year round. I know a few.

I was wondering if they were paying royalties. I'm not sure if that's required in a case like that, but I would think so.
