Not sure if any of you up in the Logan area know, but I see KLZX has a construction permit to move to 99.9. Any idea of progress on that?
Also, KLZX is listed as carrying HD, however I know from driving through the area that it is not, and the station was surprisingly in mono.
Just a few questions, for you guys in Logan. I like KLZX, keep up the good work!

I've got no info on when KLZX will move, but that's all part of the big-A docket 05-243 that moves everything above 105 and a few other things too. Moving KLZX allows KMGR to move to Humpy on 95.9

KLZX broadcasts an Alternative Rock format on HD2 and an Hispanic format on HD3. There is a booster in Tremonton, and the HD was turned on for the first time last Friday for the Tremonton site. KLZX is a 25 KW station, so coverage on the HD may not be the greatest for long distance reception. The stereo pilot was inadvertently turned off at Tremonton awhile back because of an exciter change over while preparing for the launch of the HD. I checked the pilot in Logan a couple of days ago and today and it is fine. I would be curious as to how far south people can receive the HD signal from Tremonton, if anyone is up that way. Thanks!

Is there any way to determine whether you're receiving the main or the booster? I can't think of any.

Good to know the HD is back on, I'll see if I can at least get my Sony to "blink" HD. I used to receive the RDS, but my antenna isn't pointing the right direction.
The HD on the booster doesn't interfere with the main does it?

Nigel, the HD signal is being received here in South Salt Lake on my Sony XDR-F1HD.
The display says the annoying HD-FM instead of the calls like most HD stations do. I had a locked signal for about three seconds and could start to see info. The station is up to 3 bars on the Sony, but in analog there is a noticeable hiss, I'm assuming from the range.
Right as of this post, the HD is still blinking but no lock.
On another note, KBLQ 92.9 is coming in crystal clear at the same location. 91.5 is no where to be found, and neither is 89.5.

During this evening's rain storm, I'm guessing a bit of short range tropo happened, because KLZX-HD locked on my Sony from South Salt Lake City. I was able to receive the HD2 and HD3 channels for extended periods of time. KLZX HD-1 is of course KLZX KLZX HD-2 is XFX Radio, pretty good stuff, I like what I hear. KLZX HD-3 is Spanish. Good job you guys! Now just fix the call sign so it says KLZX-FM instead of just HD-FM. Clear Channel needs to do the same on a few of their stations. Here is a pic:

If anyone cares, the significant difference between KBLQ and KLZX coverage wise is power. They broadcast from the same location at almost the same height, but KBLQ is 100kw while KLZX is 25kw.

When it comes to 91.5, South Salt Lake is too far east to hear the signal from Clarkston. We have had reports of all three HD's out west by Tooele as well as the FM signal. 89.5 transmits from on the USU campus and at only 820 watts ERP, is too faint to be heard in SLC.

Hey thanks for the reception report dxstuboy!
I'm really surprised you can even pick it up so far south. We still have more work to do as you mentioned, with syncing and display, etc. My guess is you're getting the main from that far away. With all of the mountains surrounding Cache Valley, there are only a couple of windows where the signal squeaks through. I imagine it would be hit-or-miss depending on the day.
I love that radio you've got, I want to get one myself. Do you have an outdoor antenna with that? They are supposed to be excellent with analog reception and a lot of guys are modifying them so that you can force analog if you want. The price is really reasonable for a radio of that caliber as well.

Friend, that was actually me who reported KUSU out in Tooele. That was in a moving vehicle. I should have also mentioned that yes, I am using an outdoor antenna pointed right up north specifically to see if I could get KLZX in HD. The antenna I'm using is the Radioshack FM-6, so it isn't fancy, but its a bit more than most people use. Also, KVFX (I'm assuming the Tremonton booster) on 94.5 comes in really clear as well. I had it clear enough last night to get full RDS w/ song title and info. KBLQ always comes in garbled on the RDS but it says KBLQ. Another thing that surprised the heck out of me last night was I found KKEX 96.7 is in HD too. The HD-2 is KGNT. I'm not one of those people who would modify that radio either, it is too nice to mess with. Plus, during the summer e-skip season HD (bad as it is) makes iding stations easier. I just wish it wouldn't trash the sidebands as much as it does, but thats another topic for another day.
