Most of the people who work in radio, do it because they love working in radio. You've got your sales staff, your DJs, your programmers and then you've got your remote techs. I've noticed a trend while I've been out and about that I'd like to share with you. Regardless of us all being in competition with each other, most of us don't care about who is doing better or worse, most of us just love radio for the sake of radio. This is the way it should be. We're all in this together. Regardless of how we do busines, we're all a part of one form of broadcasting. The nicest people in the biz in Salt Lake are as follows (in no order): Anybody at Citadel is high on the list, always willing to lend a hand; Simmons stations are very polite and professional, especially X96. Though I don't interact with them much, the people at Clear Channel are generally friendly. Bonneville's stations, especially the people behind the scenes at KSL are awesome and helpful to others. I haven't interacted with that many others at other stations, but note there are some bad apples out there, and for that reason, I won't mention them. They know who they are. Again, we're all in this together, so treating other stations courtiously and not being jackasses makes a big impression... Way to go SLC, you've got some good people out there who love radio. Oh yeah, and for all you nay sayers out there who think radio is dead, you're entitled to your opinion, but you're wrong .

Sue Kelly!! First person to give me a start at KTOU 94.9 Love her to death.
dx, Radio will never die you need the KSL's the KNRS's ect..for local news weather and sports.. But....New technology is hurting it. Cars and trucks now come with wi-fi and Ipod inputs ect.. I could put Sirius which I love but i have doubts on that company 5 years from now it should be around but they are not what they use to be. With Wi-Fi in auto's you can turn you Blackberrys and Iphones and Zune's with all the radio apps and tune into thousand's of stations out of market like iheartradio or Slacker,Pocket tunes or one of my favorite apps Public Radio (C895 is on that app). Espn,CBS ect all have apps
Radio will not be what it use to be like in the 70's and 80's let's take a walk down memory lane here 1320 KCPX Skinny Johhny Mitchell and all the jocks that made that station ( The Radio Was Fun Daze) Now what do have play a song and a computer voice saying name of artist and song. Wow how fun and exciting is that. Like I said radio will never die but it will never be the way it was.
One fact of the way radio to me should be done if anyone ever listens, it's the way the jocks work on BBC Radio 1.. that is just way cool and entertaining Not sure if it streams but anyone that has Sirius can listen to it.

I like Sue too, never met her though she's a friend on my facebook. I requested a song and she told me I have good music taste. I forgot to mention the folks at KSOP too, seem to have a good sense of humor/respect for other radio stations. I agree, but I just have a hard time being pessimistic with radio's future. Maybe its the fact that I've been listening to the radio as far back as I can remember, or maybe its because I'm stubborn. More options are a good thing. I have an Ipod too, but I still listen to radio when I get tired of hearing my music. I was talking with a fellow coworker about this today.. It would be cool to be able to be on the road and listen to my favorite Salt Lake stations anywhere I am, instead of just on the Wasatch front. I'd take Mick and Allen with me out east on a long trip, any day. If that is possible, I probably can't afford it, but I'll work my way up to the point where I can .

One group that wasn't mentioned are the engineers. Of course without them there's nothing to listen to, but besides that they tend to be a nice bunch of people too. I've seen a number of stories over the years about how some disaster befalls one station (tower collapses, transmitter blows up, etc.) and stations owned by competitors pitch in to help get the station back on the air. They could say "ha ha, sucks to be you and now we'll take all your listeners and your little dog too", but they don't. Sure stations are competitive, but not to the exclusion of all else.

We have had issues with some people over the years from different stations but now everyone seems to work pretty good together.. I remember at concerts several times people from the other stations would come help us with say our Big Blow up, and we have helped them with others as well.. Ive helped with that Eagle several times, and even provided power to blow it up same with the Bull so its nice that some people are willing to help also makes the whole mood better..

In the year+ I've been in the business, there are only one or two stations that have really been awful, attitude wise to our folk. Again, they know who they are, and will remain nameless.

I'm pretty nice. I think so at least.
There are only a couple people I wouldn't consider nice... and I don't want to say their names... but I was at a remote as a tech for 107.9 the Mix back in the day and the air talent laid on the sidewalk except for when he did his breaks. The entire time he was unapproachable by listeners, staff and clients. He just kept saying under his breath that he hated what he was doing. Thankfully he wasn't there much longer at the Mix.
Each time I was hired into a company in Salt Lake I thought that each of my 'bosses' were nice as could be. When I went up to X94 in '98 to talk to Todd, Todd Nuk'em treated me as a good friend, even walking me to my car in the snow to make sure it started (I drove a p.o.s.).
Ben Cross, Beej, at Star 102.7 once gave me a ride home because he was heading that way for a remote. He went out of his way to stop by the studio after my overnight shift.
Millcreek was like a family... sorda, but they were good to me until... well, I didn't work there anymore.
Other nameless morning shows hosts have been nothing but arrogant to me with their noses in the air. I don't care who they are, if they are in radio I will try to chat with them if I come across them... Some are nice as can be, some aren't and I usually feel stupid for going out of my way to say hi when they are at a remote.
