So the first observation people have pointed out - KSL is no longer airing ABC top-of-hour newscasts in peak hours (I bet they are overnights and weekends, when they've rarely had local anchored updates).
I know KIRO-FM did this with CBS for about a year but has returned in the last week or so to airing the CBS Newscast - just the first 3 minutes.
I suspect KSL found that people turn to it for "local" information and therefore they can use audio from ABC (I've heard that) as well as interview correspondents on the morning and afternoon long-form news broadcasts but not air their newscast. Instead, their local anchors can deliver what coverage is necessary - leading with local stories and then bringing in 'top national headlines' as needed. I don't think ABC cares as long as their :60 of avails/hour is cleared.
Also, on 'the other board' there is a post about KSL not mentioning their AM signal as much. I don't think they are going to create a second programming stream - unless the church wants to take away "Mormon Channel" from just being on HD2 and give it a full-market voice (why sell KUTR then?).
I suspect that KSL is continuing to emphasize 102.7 FM to help keep the younger listeners, those with FM-only radios, etc. and to continue to position themselves as the "FM talk choice" versus letting KNRS start to dig in on that positioning statement. Just my two cents.
Anyone else?

Also, on 'the other board'... ^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v^v ... position themselves as the "FM talk choice" versus letting KNRS start to dig in on that positioning statement. That was my thought when reading the post.

They are. I passed by a billboard, on I-15 I think, that said something along the lines of The Choice For FM Talk or somesuch. The logo did have both the larger 102.7 and the smaller 1160.
