I probably have too much time on my hands and you can call me a radio watchdog but here are some more observations I made about local SLC radio engineering:
Today I drove to Wyoming and took I-80 thru Evanston. 99.5 and 106.5's boosters are both dead air (but on still), not carrying the mains... 97.1 and 105.7 are fine, as is 94.1.
97.9 sounds terrible, like its either over modulated or is just that much off frequency to cause problems. The Dido song I heard was way too loud.
Today also, there was some tropo in the area as most of the SLC Farnsworth signals made it well into Wyoming, as far east as Granger, WY. I heard all of Citadel's FMs, including 1075 and 949 that far as well, sweet.
Also, thanks to the tropo event, I was able to hear a Rexburg Idaho station and one from Montrose, CO as well on the way home.
Again, Clear Channel either doesn't know it's stations are having problems, or it knows, it just doesn't care. Who knows what is up with KBZN-1, besides it bleeding from 97.7-98.1.

Where were you when you heard the boosters? The way the post is written it sounds like you were in Evanston, but the only boosters any of the Farnsworth stations have is in the Park City area.

I was actually driving through Coalville when I was testing the boosters. I could hear the mains in Evanston.
Also, I want to correct myself, the station I thought was from Montrose was just KKAT-FM coming in really well.

Ah. That makes more sense.
I'd have to take a look at the numbers to see how much the population of Park City brings to the table, but considering that almost everyone is trying to bring in those listeners it must be at least somewhat significant. I wouldn't think that the dead air wouldn't be noticed. Maybe it was a phoneco circuit that just happened to be down for a bit at that exact time. Unfortunately I don't think we have any regulars here who live in PC.
