Today I remembered I used to frequent this and the other board... but hadn't been here in quite a while. It's frustrating that there is NOTHING worth my attention in radio these days. I love the industry, but if there is no excitement for us insiders, how boring is it for those we are trying to reach with radio. Just a commentary.

Mr Bald, sir... I would submit that in the coming months we will see some movement in preparation for PPM. If not before than maybe a month or so after. This PPM thing is going to shock some folks!

*shrug* It's pretty boring up here in Seattle, and we've had PPM for 4 months now. We're still trying to understand the impact on us. It rocketed up the music stations and hit the spoken word stations like a brick. Personally, I'm bothered by the extremely small, "stable" sample.
However, it seems like Clear Channel, KFNZ/KALL, and Capital (KBZN) have all made changes in preparation for the launch in SeattleSalt Lake City.
Prediction: FM100 cleans up in December and "Holiday" PPM but if KBZN and KOSY both flip as they have in the past, it will dilute the effects.

I just wonder what is going to happen when E-skip/tropo season comes around next year and the meters start picking up stations that are hundreds if not thousands of miles from the market. I bet they have something in the meters that rejects stations that would normally not be audible regularly.
On a side note, I went into a Mini-market gas station today and they were playing K-BULL over the PA. The meter is going to pick that up for sure.

DX picked up (pun intended) on a key point. Yes, the PPM's are going to pick up incidental listening. That's going to help stations that are heard in offices and stores. Classic hits is going to be a bigger winner with PPM than they were with diaries just because a lot of people didn't know or care what station was playing in the background. That's already been proven in Philly and New York. That being said, my hunch is there's not going to be a whole lot of shifting going on specifically for PPM. Maybe less repetition of slogans or positioners, but probably not. People still need to remember where they heard something they liked. To get back to the original comment, yeah there isn't a lot exciting going on. And it's not just this market either. I'm hearing the same complaints on other boards in other areas. Radio in general is just bland and boring. And yes there are a few exceptions here and there, but those are few and far between. What we really need are personalities to inject life into the formats. Recently there was a two part special on NPR's Hearing Voices remembering Jean Shepard. Most of you probably know him as "The Christmas Story guy" but he also did decades of radio as well. Boy could today's radio use a guy like that. hearingvoices.com/news/2009/08/hv067-jean-shepherd-1/hearingvoices.com/news/2009/08/hv068-jean-shepherd-2/
