KULX-LD (10) filed a request on Monday to move to channel 14 to get out of the way of the construction permit for KCBU on channel 11. I think they're claiming they will cause interference (though the wording is unclear.) Funny how it didn't seem to matter when KUEN9 and KBYU11 analog were right next door though.
This would be a good move for me. I might actually have a chance of receiving them. I can't get diddley now even with a VHF antenna. My UHF setup is pretty good though.

I agree this is a good idea. The only problem is that there is a CP for TBN to move to 15. I can't see any problems with interference given the distance between Farnsworth and Ensign, but I don't know if digital stations cause co-channel interference. I would guess not, but again, I have no idea. They are both lower power anyway, so I don't think it would be a problem. KULX is going to have to become Noticias 14-1. KJZZ may not like that.
Edit: Does it really matter any more that the COL isn't being covered by the station? I would think there would be a problem.

The distance between KULX and KCBU on 11 is a whole lot greater so the TBN station moving to 15 might be an issue, but the first one in would probably have priority when comparing two LPTV's. I'm not sure how the rules would take care of that.
Having KULX going by 14.1 etc wouldn't happen though. That's in the FCC rules. Any new station on a channel that's being used as a virtual channel by another station on another frequency automatically gets the channel number of the actual physical channel that the older station uses. In this case it would be 46.
I'm sure that the current KULX covers Ogden enough for the FCC's liking. The coverage math is all that actually counts. Whether the signal is actually useable where the math says it will be is irrelevant. I was somewhat following the debate over the move of KNTV out in San Jose CA up to San Francisco. Using the Longley-Rice method NBC was able to move the station even though it was made useless in the COL. It's an interesting story if you'd like to do some digging.

No wonder most of the rimshots are not usable in their COL here. According to RL, they all should reach their COLs, but they don't or are weak. Thats probably good enough for the FCC.

Are you talking about the Humpy rimshots or something else?

Yes, the Humpy rimshots on FM. I've been a bit upset with the Blaze lately, and reception is just one of their issues, not that I listen to that station (and I wouldn't be alone).

KUEN and KBYU were broadcasting from the Oquirrhs, though....so, they were pretty much equidistant to most receivers from all the analogs. KSTU seemed to be the biggest culprit on my receiver, though. When they shut down analog 13, the margin came up substantially on digital 10. One of those "n+3" things, I guess.
KCBU wants to locate a full-power DTV on Payson Peak, east of Provo, which would put a very strong signal on top of the upper VHF band in Utah County. That could cause problems for KULX-LD.
The FCC web data for TBN was never updated after they moved to Farnsworth Peak, a decade ago. Hossein (FCC guy) says that TBN needed to update it, but TBN apparently never did. It's correct on the actual license though. They COULD apply to flash-cut, if they wanted.
Then, there's 3ABN, channel 26, from Foothill Drive. They applied for digital 8 years ago, still off of Foothill. Maybe they should go to Farnsworth, maybe UHF, too.

So wait, the TBN is on Farnsworth? No wonder the analog comes in pretty good at my location.
Why is it taking so long for these stations to transition? Not that I watch that kind of programming, just wondering why its taking so long.

The LPTV's aren't being required to simulcast or switch and that costs money. I would imagine they'd want to keep costs low if possible and since it works..... Could the silencing of 13 analog and the increase in reception on 10 have been a coincidence? Like, 10 increased their power once everything else was out of the way, but it wasn't a direct cause/effect relationship? It seems pretty odd to me that a third adjacent station would cause that much of a problem. The only thing I can think of would be overload. All the Fansworth analog stations were running on second adjacents and I don't think any of them interfered with each other, and that would be more noticeable in analog. It's quite puzzling, but a lot of broadcast science is Deep Voodoo.

I watched the change on an analyzer. The moment that 13 went off, the margin changed by about 3 dB. It had improved only one dB when each (7, 9, 11) of the others went off.

So is KULX (and the sub-channels) still broadcasting? I'm not picking them up on ch 10 in Davis County.

If they are still broadcasting, something has happened to the transmitter such as lower power. I was able to receive the station two days ago, and now its gone.

I'm still getting 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3.

Ok. I was able to pick up 10 (and sub-channels) on my indoor antenna a few weeks ago. I'm checking with the manager to my complex to see if I can set up an outdoor antenna. I understand that I should be able to get a better reach with one on the roof.

Hmm, must be my antenna then, even though it's pointed right at Farnsworth, go figure. Will have to do some adjustments. I seem to have also lost KUTH. Not that I watch those channels, I just like having all of them in.
