The party in power has an astonishing new idea: force private radio broadcasters to fund public broadcasting. "Mark Lloyd, newly appointed Chief Diversity Officer of the Federal Communications Commission, has called for making private broadcasting companies pay licensing fees equal to their total operating costs to allow public broadcasting outlets to spend the same on their operations as the private companies do." www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2315068/postsThis crazy leftist idea, if instituted, will eventually bankrupt private radio and therefore public radio as well. It's just dopey. Where do they find these people?

Government needs ot keep out of the private sector. There's way too much interference already.

My own opinion: I disagree. It has always been about balance. Corporate power grows too large = trouble. Government power grows too large = trouble.
Government does some things better than the private sector and botches others. I am happy our roads have regulations which are enforced. Living in a state where pyramid schemes proliferate tells me business regulation needs more personnel to enforce existing law. Don't even get me started on construction contractors who ignore building code as their standard operating procedure.
Yep, there are good people in both the private and public sectors. It is the others that lead to problems. The incompetent, the petty criminals, the sociopaths ... that sort-0-thing.
To bring it more narrowly on topic. Corporate acquisitiveness has lowered the quality of broadcast radio for me. They bid up the costs of properties and, cut personnel in order to pay the light bill.
