From the other Utah news board: utahradionews.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=2795I have to agree with 'chup - seems like it will be a religious broadcaster, which would make sense for using the KUTR site. Has the *new* KUTR done anything to help people find its signal? On a related note, I'd fully support the FCC 'assisting' in programming requirements for new service additions like CRTC does in Canada. This is just absurd at this point!

One second. Time for a breather. No license has been issued. There hasn't even been a construction permit approved yet, to spite what anyone else says. You can look at it for yourself. www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/amq?list=0&facid=161124The announcement by the FCC happened on Friday: hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-291470A2.txtI did see it, but since it wasn't really important I didn't bother posting about it. But since it was brought up, I'll clear up any confusion. There was originally an application for 780AM Draper filed back in January 2004. That was for the same location as KUTR. Remember that Simmons owned the station at the time. They don't anymore and that might be why the KUTR site is no longer acceptable. I don't know. What I do know is that the new location is northeast of the KUTR site and is at a much lower power day and night but higher during critical hours. (And yes, I'm ignoring the pattern aspect for now.) As for programming, it's hard to say. There are 4 radio stations that the applicants RAMS III (Joan, Lee and Lyle Reynolds of Birmingham Alabama) has connections to. 3 are FM music stations (country, oldies and AC) and 1 is an AM gospel station. There are also some hints that they may simply be putting the station on the air and then looking for a buyer. I suppose I could contact them, but does anyone care that much right now?

Thanks for the clarification. I'm amazed you found more information about RAMS III. It seems to be clear at this point that Simmons does not want to expand into AM. Probably wise considering the aging audience and high power bills.

Simmons doesn't own KUTR anymore, but they do still own 1280 and 960. 1280 is sports and 60 is Spanish and was simulcasting with former Simmons properly 1660 last I checked.
I just finished reading today's FCC announcements and there's another fly in the ointment. An application for 770AM licensed to South Salt Lake was reinstated. That application is absolutely mutually exclusive with the 780 we've been talking about. So this is far from over.
By the way, if you want to point the people over at URN over to this thread to clue them in on what's really going on, feel free.
