...besides the morning show, what time slot would you want?
Afternoons seems like the obvious choice, but exactly when to when. 2-7, 3-7, 2-6?? What would be your main focus for those 4-5 hours and what times would you do what?
What about nights, where you have a little more room for being crazy and looser with your bits and such. What times?? 6-mid, 7-mid, 6-10... what, here, would you say is your main focus.
How about middays, where you just mostly keep the music moving for those at work with QUICK elements and informative segments. 9AM too early, or should you do it 10 AM...?
Lets all pretend we are air-talent/program directors and give me your thoughts.

Have to agree with dxstuboy...if I could pick a time to be back on the radio....it would be overnights. Funnest time I ever had

You might make more cash in amd or pmd but I think the best time would be nights. 7-mid. Usually a little more freedoms are extended to break out from some tight liner-card jock work. I would probably not do a hit or history / smash hit or trash it / love it or shove it game and do a cool daily real request based countdown hot 7 @ 7 or something. Love countdowns! I don't envy those jocks taking 100 some-odd calls to get a vote. it seems like 98% of the time, the song gets voted in anyway.
I'd have give-aways. I'd focus on calls and have some topical discussions. plenty of music though, I know those PPMS are all about music!.
I prefer country music, but i'd take a gig anywhere really. (probably not Spanish).

I've done nights, overnights and mornings.... Mornings are way fun but the liberties of nights are great.

Ok, here's a question. Which is more important to the freedom at a particular station: timeslot or management? I would think management.

yeah, management. But I've never had a boss tell me to not do something my own.

I always start a post and get interupted... to add on to my post just above... Programmers have told me in the past: 'One thought per break, Hit the station events, BUT do your own thing and entertain these people.' Radio is NOT FUN as a liner jock. I get bored everytime I fall into a rut of depending on the liners to get me through a show. If any of you (and I realize nobody every does) tunes into my show, no matter what time slot I have been in (currently overnights) I have had a format that is my own. When it gets dull I revamp and add/delete so that I am entertaining and being entertained.
Middays aren't as fun because the listener interaction isn't the same, thats why I personally prefer mornings or Nights (including overnights).
Afternoons are probably a great mix of doing what needs to be done (playing the music, reporting on traffic, weather and etc...) and having a personality with interviews, caller interaction, news (entertainment, music, local) and having the responsibility of making everyone feel good on their way home.
So, a side question: Is it good to have regular music news, entertainment news and movie updates on your show EVEN if only a handful of people really pay attention to it? My thinking is that if your report is upbeat, quick and relevent than people accept it and listen through it. Tell me what you think.

If you're careful, I think it could work. Just make them quick and sparse. But that's just me.
