In Idaho, KNIN TV (pending FCC approval) will be gobbled by another group. This reduces the current number of voices, which is the FCC's 1999 "8 voices" restriction. Utah doesn't really have that problem right now with so many translators/main signals covering SLC-Ogden-Provo... but I was thinking, could some of these stations be in need of consolidated ownership? Arguably one already exists - KUED and KUEN. Oh geez, where is my head - 2 now exist. I'm guessing CLear CHannel used the "failing" argument to buy KUCW 32 as well. However, no local news was added and I don't know if it is 'better serving' the community. More details about the Idaho sale and analysis can be found at www.idahoradionews.com

Sorry about the slip up there. In Portland, Ore. where I lived briefly after Utah - the CW affiliate was on 32 (with a low-power repeater on the mountain where all the other TV comes from), so I flubbed.
CA I suppose that makes sense, but in Boise there's basically only 5 viable signals anyway. Well... apparently only 4.

Soon it won't matter what frequency the actual station is on. Virtual channel mapping will make actual channel numbers meaningless except to engineers and geeks. I don't know if that's a good thing, but probably not. I like to be able to get into the nuts and bolts of something if needed so I can fix it when something goes blooey. Example: KUCW-DT went off the air last week for a while. I wasn't sure if it was setup, so I made my dumb DTV box rescan all the channels. Naturally without a signal there, the mapping disappeared. The only thing I could do was keep rescanning all the channels to see when it would show up again. *sigh*

CA, you need a meter wired in place. Either that or resign yourself to getting a degree in cartography.
