Today out of shear boredom, I drove from my house in SLC to the top of Lake Mountain, which, for those of you who don't know, is located just west of Utah Lake, directly across from several cities, such as Provo and Orem. Lake Mountain has a bunch of small translators, two high powered TV stations, and (as of this writing) two high powered FM stations, KHTB 94.9 and KKAT-FM 107.5 There are two roads to get to the top of the mountain, but my GPS decided to lead me on the longest route from the base. It begins on US-68 on a road known as "Soldier Hollow road." Getting to the top (for me) took about half an hour, as the road was in awful shape and I was in my Subaru Outback, clearly the wrong vehicle to be doing this sort of thing in. But I made it and was able to take the pictures you will see on the mountain's Wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Mountain_(Utah)Why would I do this you ask? Why risk my car's tires and possibly my life getting to a tower site? Because I love radio, up to and especially the towers themselves. You guys know that I have a website that has tower pictures, and I have long sought to get to the top of Lake Mountain. Here ya go! Enjoy! Now I never have to go up there again (unless someone takes me up in a real 4x4, not my Subaru). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KHTBen.wikipedia.org/wiki/KKAT-FMcommons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Lake_Mountain,_Utah

Windy and surprisingly cold up there. Some people in an ATV gave me a weird look when I was coming back down. Hey, Subaru ads show the cars crossing streams and such, I thought my car was capable of the same thing .

Excellent job. Looking at the coverage map for K49GD it looks like it's broadcasting to a whole lot of nothing. I ws thinking maybe it's more for feeding another translator toward the southwest, but I can't find any other station in that direction that A&O owns. Any ideas? Also, the H in KHTB was also part of the name when Millcreek first moved in. It originally went by Hot 94.9 The Blaze. I guess that was just too long.
