While I personally abhor the technology at this point (because it seems doomed to failure/adoption by the general public), UPR has an amazingly smart usage of HD radio.

Their schedule plan is basically to do the opposite of what is on feed 1 on feed 2 - so when the main station is in news/information programming, HD2 is in classical music mode. When the main FM is in classical/music programming, HD2 is in talk mode. Seems really smart, honestly.
"Puget Sound Public Radio" employs a similar strategy on KUOW-FM, KXOT-FM in our region. They are both n/t but air different programming. One is the secondary service on the other's HD signal.
And... the best part of all is that the students get an over the air signal... if only it could be heard... on HD3. :-)
UPR, thank you for opening your mind to allowing students on-air and smartly utilizing a technology that may or may not last.
