About 2 1/2 years after the move was supposed to be completed, KYLZ's license to cover for their Humpy Peak allocation has been approved. This is the move of 104.9 in the Logan area to 104.7 SL rimshot from Humpy Peak.
As of right now, the old 104.9 facility is still on the air running classic country. I presume that this means that the switch should be thrown any day now. From the TUR listening perch near Ogden I'm not hearing the VFX translator from Lake Mountain. What I am hearing has to be K284AY, which is a KUER translator west of Tooele. I've never heard them before, and that 10 watts is a surprising catch. Pretty neat. Anyone else catching anything unusual on 104.7 right now?
The satellite service that the existing facility is running isn't being heard in Salt Lake anymore. (It used to be on 860AM many moons ago.) Maybe Country Legends 107.5 will get some competition? Any suggestions on the format? I think a real 60's based oldies format would be nice. (Maybe KDYL could simulcast?) Or maybe an 80's pop based station. That should do well with the 35-49 soccer moms demo.

Hopin' they don't stay country... I think one oldies country is good for the state. Really don't need anymore country or spanish stations in the SLC area it's well covered along with Top 40 now.
It would be nice to see a good 80's station up and running and I agree KDYL would be nice fit .
Can't think of it but ... The rock station up in Logan would be awesome!! More of the 80's Hairbands and a lot less like Z-Rock or The Blaze and more rockin' then Arrow.

I definitely agree that modern country would be an awful choice. I don't know this for a fact, but I'm thinking it's likely that the new station will be either heavily automated or satellite given Millcreek's current financial situation. When a full market station went country a few years ago (105.7) and couldn't make much of a dent, a rimshot has pretty much no chance.
Top 40 could be a possibility if they could find a niche, but that's a long shot for anyone. Given that Millcreek owns Mix, forget it.
Spanish? I'm not as convinced there. Remember, Spanish is a language not a format. Bustos owns 3 station in the market and all 3 are very different from each other. Someone who knows the formats would be better equipped to answer if another Spanish rimshot makes sense.
The Logan station you're talking about, do you mean KLZX? They're currently at 95.9 and will be moving to 99.9 at some point. That actually makes a lot of sense from a programming standpoint too. SL could use a good classic rocker. Thing is, that's owned by Frandsen who will have a rimshot of his own to deal with at some point. Waiting makes sense there. Is there a good satellite classic rock service?
VFX's 104.7/Provo translator is back on tonight. Maybe it was down for testing. They haven't really mentioned that translator for a long time. Has there been any on air mention of the imminent doom at the south end of the valley?
That's owned

I hear VFX on 104.7 from the SLC listening post. This afternoon around 1 for the first time ever, I heard 104.9 playing country. They mentioned they were the "top of Utah's classic country."
It was weak but readable. What was the wattage for this old facility?
Any idea why 103.9 is simulcasting 107.9 here in SLC?

Isn't 103.9 the Nephi station, and haven't they always (or most always, anyway) simulcast 107.9? Did I miss something?

In "The Day" when they first launched The Fever (KFVR) on 107.9 they had it configured so 107.9 would hit Utah Valley... but decided that the Booster configuration to get it into Utah Valley didn't do certain areas of Salt Lake Valley as good as could be done if they sacrificed Utah Valley.. so they did that. Then They tried to do the 103.9 from a tower Northwest of Nephi first but it splattered all over the place in Utah County except the east side of provo.. they they pulled that huge tower down and put the 103.9 main up in Indianola Utah (Sanpete Co) that allowed a booster on Lake Mountain... and then they started simulcasting 107.9 on that at 103.9.... 105.1 which is now simulcasting 97.5 is the same deal.. .Indianola main.. Lake Mountain Booster...

The name when Fever was first dropped for CHR was Dianna, right? If I remember the order correctly, it was Dianna, then Power D, then Mix.
Anyway, when the CHR first started both 103.9 and 107.9 were running the same format but programmed independently. From SL you could hear both and they weren't doing a simulcast. I'm not sure how long that lasted.
The old 104.9 is a class C0. It was a full class C before getting downgraded to make way for the upgrade to 105.1/Manti (now KAUU). When it was a C I could pick it up easily all the way down to Midvale. The swapped formats with class A KGNT back around 2002 or so, with country moving from 103.9 (as The Country Giant) to 104.9 and 104.9's oldies (as K105 The Kar) moving to 103.9's facility. The downgrade happened in 2003.
Now, here's the potential problem for 104.9/104.7. The FCC has issued the license for the new site. The authorization for the old site has been removed. Yet, 104.9 is still on the air. Technically, it's now a pirate station. I wonder how long that will last, especially since their Salt Lake booster has yet to be approved.
The fun continues....

Well I hope they do something good for all of ya!! Format wise. I was dissapointed to hear the dance thing did not work 100.7 in SLC. Heck it could still be a year before sign-on but may be wrong
