According to Sports by Brooks, ESPN Radio is going to start charging significant fees (tens of thousands of dollars) to carry ESPN Radio programming.
The source is dubious, but Radio-Info finds it credible so there may be something to it. This would significantly affect pea shooter 1230 KJQS, which is heavy on network feeds. Fox Sports Radio and Sporting News Radio are both still apparently free, but I think those are locked up with KALL/700 and KZNS/1280, right?
CItadel just can't catch a break these days.

I've heard rumblings about what is to happen to 1230 but I don't know what to believe, nor if it would be a good idea for me to guess, and this was just today. That and I also heard a few choice words for KJQS this evening from the KFNZ staff. Under contract, I'm not allowed to repeat what I heard unfortunately.

We understand. I don't think anyone wants you to lose your job. I know I don't.
I had another thought today. Maybe Citadel could try Air America. I'm sure they could use a boost, and they could probably end up ahead in the deal. AA was rumored to be coming to SL 5 years ago but that never materialized. Maybe now's the time. It's hard to believe they would beat KSL or KNRS in this market, but it could pull a couple of ratings points.
As always the tipline here is open if you want to drop me a line, either by PM if you're a member or by email to talkingutahradio/at\aol.com (change the /at\ to @ of course) All tips are kept confidential if you desire.
