Heard loud and clear in the Tooele Valley on 91.5. Spotty HD signal coming into Salt Lake City and not audible downtown. I can hear the the analog signal pretty easy although it is very choppy. Just thought our friends up in Logan would like to hear that HD Radio DXing is possible, and I caught your station in the KBER van ;D.

That's a pretty impressive radio you've got there. To be able to pick up the lower power HD signal, especially with KUFR right next door is a pretty nice feat. What model of radio is it?

I think its a JVC, older HD Model. The reason I say old is that it still says HD stands for "High Definition." The same radio is also in the big B987 van too. They aren't as great as they seem though. You have to have the volume all the way up to hear something when you are on the highway.
When I'm driving back from remotes that happen after the sun goes down, I see if I can get HD locks on AM but the only stations I get are the three locals. I get HD blinking on 1070 (KNX), 850 (KOA), and occasionally HD blinking on 1040 when WHO comes in very well, which is rare.

I have passed your note along to the others and the staff says collectively "wow" and "thanks for letting us know!"
Amazing what 8.2 watts (11 watts ERP) of HD will do...!

Let them know it was in the area of Tooele where the HD was coming in. It must have been line of sight. EDIT: I was listening to the HD-3 Channel, Fusion. They were playing a Rod Stewart song and I was rocking out to it. This was last Friday afternoon if you want to check the logs. Right as I got back into Salt Lake, all I could hear was the analog side of things. I'm thinking of purchasing a Sony XDR-F1HD soon.

No (intended) offense, but this is another reason HD at 100% of ERP would be a problem, even on FM and definitely destroy weak "adjacent"/fringe/rim-shot stations.

For the record, I agree 100% with you. I hate IBOC. It's a terminally flawed concept. However, I'm going to play devils advocate for a minute or two. Under the FCC regulations a station only has the expectation of being able to be received out to it's interference-free contour. (I forget offhand if that's the grade-A or grade-B.) Any reception outside of that is a bonus. Certainly reception of KUSU in SLC is outside the interference-free zone. They can't have any expectation of being received there. Ok, I'm done with that. I just realized why the HD reception was possible. I missed that the catch was in the Tooele area. (My bad.) KUFR would have been blocked by the mountains so it wouldn't have been able to destroy the right "sideband" of digital data. Makes a lot more sense now.

...and we're just happy that it could be heard there. With the new antenna on the 91.5 tower out west of Clarkston, I'm interested to see if our reach outside our protected contour has improved. It's icing on the cake. And I agree, let's leave IBOC at 20db down, it's just better that way.
PS.: I'll tell the Fusion student station manager....he'll like hearing this reception report, too.

KUSU is the only Logan station that at least partially comes in in SLC, albeit analog. The other day, I had it blink on HD on I-15 by the spaghetti bowl but it didn't lock.
Are the other Logan area stations planning on going HD any time soon Friendlee?

Funny. In Salt Lake I can get KBLQ, KVFX (the 94.5 one), KLZX, and usually KEGH though that one's been a little funky recently. You can't get those?

Not on my ordinary radio in my room, and rarely in the same receiver listed above. I must not be listening hard enough

There have been a few attempts to get HD up and running at 'the ranch' (cv radio group) but the only one I know that was on was KLZX's HD-2. I'm not sure where things stand with their HD rollout. I'll keep an ear to the grindstone (I love mixed metaphors) and see what I hear.
