With Conference time once again upon us, KSL-TV will naturally be providing live coverage for most sessions. This means that NBC programming that 5.1 would normally carry is being bumped to 5.2 preempting COZI-TV. This year is a little different in that there are currently copies of COZI-TV on both 5.2 and 5.3, so COZI-TV will still be available. Not the most economical use of KSL's bandwidth normally, but it works out this weekend.
The other interesting thing KSL is doing is not airing the Saturday 6PM session on their main channel. 5.1 will be reportedly airing a college football game while the Conference broadcast airs on 5.2 instead. Have they done that before or is this new?

I am not aware of anything like that having been done before. The closest thing that I can recall is when the US invasion of Iraq launched, KSL switched away from General Conference to NBC's breaking news coverage of the president making an address (although they did not immediately cut away -- the speech was joined already in progress, supposedly because KSL's staff had to get permission from very high up to switch away from the conference). At that time, KBYU did not air General Conference (in English) live, instead tape delaying each session for two hours. But when KSL cut over to NBC, KBYU cut over from live coverage of General Conference (in Spanish) to live coverage in English. Arranging this is probably also a reason for the delay in KSL switching to NBC.
Obviously, now that BYU TV also broadcasts each session of General Conference live (in English), there is not as much need for KSL to also broadcast each and every session. BTW, anyone know if KSL and/or KBYU using SAP to broadcast a Spanish translation of the conference sessions?

BTW, anyone know if KSL and/or KBYU using SAP to broadcast a Spanish translation of the conference sessions? I don't think it's called SAP in the DTV world since there can be multiple alternate audio tracks, but yes both KSL-TV and BYU-TV have the Spanish translation on an alternate track. It turns out that the Zap2it TV listing was wrong about COZI still being available. Channel 5.3 is airing Conference as well, with an on-screen sign language interpreter! I think they've got pretty much everyone covered in one way or another.

Not sure what they are doing today, but the main channel has always been 1080i HDTV, with DD5.1 audio in English. Spanish is provided in Dolby Digital as well, and can be selected by the user. Can anyone tell if the Spanish is in full surround? I don't remember KSL airing the 6 PM sessions on the air. In the analog days, that was "Priesthood, and was not for women. That's the time that women all went shopping at ZCMI, and was seen as a special "treat" for the out-of-towners. At Broadcast House, we hid the fact that a couple of women might be working that evening, and might see it 😉 .
