According to rbr.com, NewsNet has completely shut down. Locally that means that it's gone from Ch 25.1 after less than 10 months. 25.1 has switched to another copy of the ShopHQ home shopping service that's also on 25.3. The all sports news SNHtv that was on 25.2 is also gone. I'm not sure what it's running but it's a lot of outdoorsy programs.
I can't say this is too much of a surprise. From what I saw, NewsNet was repackaged wire reports with wrap-arounds from a tiny studio, and it seemed like most/all of the commercials were for products owned by the owner of NewsNet. Running a network to hawk your own products doesn't make economic sense to me.
The big question now is, what becomes of Ch 25? The stations around the country that they bought were specifically for running the network, so with that gone do they have a plan B? I wouldn't be surprised if those stations end up on the auction block before long.
