I'm very surprised by this. The last time I saw KUTB actually airing programming was for one day back in 2019. Since then I have only seen them broadcasting null packets with no programming. They finally filed a request to remain silent on Jan 3 2023, claiming that they'd been silent since Dec 30 2022 due to an encoder failure. At least the reason is plausible, though I'm virtually certain the date is wildly inaccurate. Even as I write this Channel 18 is still on the air with Null Packet Theater. We'll have to see how long it takes for the transmitter to be turned off. Assuming there isn't an appeal and the license stays cancelled, this could be an opportunity for one of the new VHF stations that are poised to sign on.
