Yesterday morning (2/10) I heard someone faintly on 1060 playing the national anthem at 7:41. I presume someone was signing on like in the old days and it made me wonder, does KDYL sign-off at night. I know they don't have to but with the odd time to hear the anthem and knowing that KDYL switches power and pattern from night to critical hours (or did at one time) and then to day power, could they be signing on at critical hours switch time? Being up here in Cache Valley, 1060 is faint at best (unless I drive over to Brigham City where reception is better) and is virtually not there when they are on night power. Any thoughts about my mindless rantings?

I dunno, Friend. I certainly can't pick up KDYL well enough up here at what would be "sign-off" time to hear if they sign off or sign on. During the day they do come in and I listen but usually by 3:30 or 4pm they're getting pretty flakey and shakey. However, conditions lately have brought in some odd stuff. Such as 680 KNBR San Francisco during the DAY....plus others like that.....stations that usually visit only at night. I want to say that same day I was getting KTWO 1030, plus a good signal from 1080 KSLL in Price---they only visit late in the day an hour or two before sunset. So with those conditions, I'd say it's possible that was a 1060 coming in from the west signing on at 6:41am ? Maybe a 1060 to the west of us that's a daytimer only? There's one good thing I will say about winter. As far as conditions go, ya never know!

The only thing that made me think of it being KDYL was that this station commences playing oldies but I couldn't pick out any calls due to the weakness of the signal (well, co-channel chatter). I agree....all bets are off in the winter even when the sun it above the horizon!

Radio Locator says that the only oldies station on 1060 in the country is in Tennessee. Of course, they never updated KDYL either so who the heck knows. KDYL is still on at night every time I listen, but maybe they still do a signon. I've never heard it.

Hey guys, just so you don't stay up all night wondering about what you heard. Steve-O has a feature each weekday morning about 7:40 where he raises the flag and salutes our veterans, something Mark Van Wagoner started many moons ago. Mark now does the 1-3 show here so he can devote more time to his talent work. To our knowledge we don't sign off...unless UP&L pulls the plug. Thanks for caring..

Hey Danny (Mark, and everyone at 1060). Props for running a great oldies station!
I must chime in though, and say I do miss the old days when 1060 would sign off late at night. It let me pick up KNX 1070 very clearly. Now it's covered in some sort of hash. Still try to listen, though.
