What I'm hearing is an about 8 second delay on 1160's analog audio when compared to the digital signal. I know that the analog is supposed to be delayed for 8 seconds so that it matches up with the digital which is designed to have an 8 second delay because if there weren't the analog would be 8 seconds AHEAD of the digital. This is the opposite. Is it possible that there's a way to set the digital signal so that it doesn't have a delay? I didn't think that was possible. The other possibility I can think of is that the digital is doing the 8 second delay it always has and the analog is being double delayed for some reason.
Can anyone else confirm they're hearing the same thing I am?

I wish they would put the Nauvoo Bell back on occasionally. For weeks, I have been watching some strange stuff going on, most noticably during "Music and the Spoken Word". Everything seems nearly a minute off. The studio announcer says it's "9:28", but my clock shows 9:29, toggling to 9:30. They hit the live show at the end of the opening announcement. Not sure if the various delays, including digital audio encoding/decoding, profanity delay, IBOC encoding delays, are all cumulative, or what. I was also told that they take the "M&SW" audio from the Church satellite network, which would add even more delay. I'd love to hear an EBU-style beep at the output of Master Control, and troubleshoot from there.

Yes, there is a way to turn off the HD delay. That used to be SOP on local BYU games, because so many people listened to Paul James over the air while in the venue.
Another possibility is, that new EAS boxes are adding delays, as well. Maybe KSL could rebroadcast a live feed of WWV audio some night?

Good to know that turning off the delay is possible. That's a big complaint I hear about HD stations that air sports. That would of course mean the HD signal is more susceptible to dropouts but it might be worth it.
With any EAS boxes, wouldn't the audio be going through the same box before it hit air? Even if it was something with EAS an 8 second delay seems excessive to me.

I think it's all the various "low latency" processes, including consoles, processors, digital STL, etc. But, being a Primary Entry Point....who knows what else it sitting right in front of that transmitter. Also, are the talent monitoring the off-air signal for their cues. Or, the outbound feed?

FWIW: On one of the rare occasions that the KSL 1160 HD was switched off, I was able to log KTSB in Tulsa on 1170. Normally the 1160 HD sidebands extend from 1140 to 1180 kHz.
