Apparently as of today "La Preciosa," a Clear Channel format carried nationwide is now on 105.7. This is interesting positioning... just a shake down from "Magia" and finally allows the country music pie to sort back up a little (please money... go to KSOP, you won't regret it). I guess they saw the continued success of La Gran D (which is usually top 5 25-54 at this point, if I recall) and realized, "hey! We have a 50k stick on Farnsworth, let's USE it." This may be the most success this frequency will get since the 70s version of KCPX. www.clearchannel.com/Radio/PressRelease.aspx?PressReleaseID=1496 The network's been nationwide for 3 years. Expect syndicated talent as good as Bustos, I'd think.

The Wheel of Formats on 105.7 spins again. How long did My Country last, about a year and a quarter?
I don't think this was any great surprise. I questioned the flip to country when it happened. There are just too many country stations in the market, and they were the last one in. There would have to be something really compelling to make people switch and 105.7 didn't give much of anything. The ratings reflected that. Add the pressure Clear Channel is under company wide to perform and it was a pretty good bet it wouldn't survive.
Then the question is what to change it *to*? SF is exactly right. We've been talking about having a full power Farnsworth station going to something in Spanish (Spanish is a language, not a format) for years. About 12 percent of the market is Hispanic. A large percentage of them speak primarily or exclusively Spanish. It makes perfect sense to go after that segment. The only problem in selling that format idea is that the ratings for the Spanish language stations are very inconsistent. I suspect that has a lot to do with diary placement. The risk is mitigated here because 105.7 was doing so badly anyway there wasn't much to lose.
It's good to see CC shake up the status quo a bit. It could use a good jiggle.

The only problem in selling that format idea is that the ratings for the Spanish language stations are very inconsistent. From that source *not naming names, but its initials are A.A.,* la gran D has been top 5 25-54 at times in the market recently. I'm sure that looked lucrative to CC to combo with other stations in the market for national biz. Starting in July, the point about the diary will be moot. PPM takes over. There's a much smaller sample (about 1/2 the diary survey size) and most participants are in for a year. There is about a 10% turnover in markets currently for those breaking compliance or moving, etc. However, Clear Channel will know what's happening with "La Poderosa" immediately and no need to worry about diary confusion between Magia, La Gran D, KSVN...
